Viva Las Vegas- Part Two

Why is sleeping in impossible on vacation?  It’s vacation.  We are supposed to sleep in right?

I was up at 6AM.

Six…. A…. M….

Internal Alarm Clock is a b!tch sometimes.   Or it could have been the Red Bull still going strong in my system and a killer headache I had started to sport.

Aleve, water, a few more hours of dozing in and out of sleep and magic: headache be-gone.

On the agenda: The Forum to shop with my girl, Cyndi.

1080

Louis Vuitton, Christian Louboutin, Armani, Gucci, Tiffany and Co. and I all rubbed elbows for the day.

And, after witnessing the shopping styles of the rich and famous, we soothed our egos and slimmer wallets with Fat Tuesday Slushies.

Vodka Red Bull Slushie for Cyndi, Rum and Fruit Punch Slushie for me!

Next up, Cyndi took me through the Bellagio to check out the Botanical Garden.  Truly amazing to see the extensive displays of flowers, plants and scenery.

Each horse was covered entirely with grass, moss and other types of greenery.  No green thumb here, so don’t ask for descriptions beyond a kindergarten level.

1106

On our way out we checked out the Fiori Di Como, a glass sculpture that hangs above the 18 foot ceiling.

1117

On our walk back to meet the men in our lives, we caught a quick look at the Bellagio fountains, Eiffel tower and I had to throw in a pic of Planet Hollywood where my girl Britney is living for the time being.

1124

I am very sad she and I couldn’t match up our schedules this trip.  I’ll catch her next time around. 🙂

1128

Once we caught back with the husbands, we all decided to take a walk to the Harley Davidson Cafe.

1141

1144

The cafe had a conveyor belt that circulated the room.  Pretty cool to see a handful of Harley’s floating above your head.  We decided to stick around the Cafe and sit outside on the patio.  It was GORGEOUS that afternoon and it served as a good meeting point for the rest of the group.

Our bill was impressive!

The afternoon soon slipped by and soon we found ourselves in a limo headed to Fremont Street!   While there we ate some great food, listened to decent music, drank a lot, gambled a little and had ourselves a great last night in Vegas!

After Fremont Street we headed back to the hotel and ended our night in varying capacities.

But, a weekend in Vegas wouldn’t be complete without random cots in elevators and someone getting arrested a few doors down from us.

I’d say this was the perfect ending for a Vegas weekend.

Viva Las Vegas- Part One

It only took me 33 years, but Vegas is finally checked off my Bucket List.  Oh what fun we had in the 48 hours that we were there.

Friday the 7th, Clint and I boarded a plane at 6AM for our connecting flight in Denver. We don’t look too shabby for that hour, eh?

974

Omaha is apparently super lame in the direct flight department.  Once we hit our layover in Denver we headed straight to the bar.

It’s Vegas weekend!  Why wouldn’t we get started right away with Bloody Mary’s and Beer?!

968

967

A few cocktails later and we were on a plane to VEGAS!

Our weekend accommodations were at The Flamingo.  This is where we met up with the rest of our crew who had all gotten in on Thursday.   The Flamingo provided us a decent stay.  Nice large room, comfy bed, big bathroom mirrors (every girls needs those).  What more do you need while in Vegas?

Pink blankets and curtains.  But of course!

The view from our room.

Once we checked in our group walked over to the New York, New York to hit up some tables and do a little shopping.  All with Vodka Red Bulls, of course.  Those seemed to be the choice of drink for the group over the weekend.  I have a copy of the bill from Saturday to prove it.

I was completely impressed that you can walk anywhere with a drink.  Um, awesome.  And the shopping was over the top fantastic, not only for the shops, but for the scenery as well.  How cool is this interactive ceiling?  Apparently, it thunderstorms at certain hours.  I missed that show, but I can see how much of a head trip this would be with a few too many cocktails.  😉

Clint never takes off this HyVee sweatshirt.  I know.

That evening we went to Zumanity.  What I can offer to you regarding the show is to keep an open mind.  It is very explicit in nature, but the athleticism, dedication and artistic expression that these individuals exude was out of this world.  I was truly impressed and entertained.

Zumanity

After Zumanity we split and went different directions.  Some of us gambled, some hit up the bar, some called it a night.  Clint and I took off and walked around the Strip long enough for me to capture a few night pictures.  I wish we had spent more time out and about because there is SO much I didn’t see and my pictures are incredibly disappointing, but shoe choice and sleep deprivation started to catch up with us around 2:30am.

Saturday night adventures include hefty bills and cots in elevators.  Stay tuned!

We are just THAT special, folks.

Christmas Recap, Money Giving Idea & A Rolo Cookie Recipe

Hi All!  I hope you had a very Merry Christmas with family and friends.  We had a whirlwind of Christmas Celebrations, but loved every single one of them.

Money Giving Idea!

Clint wanted to give his nephews cash for Christmas.  What kid doesn’t enjoy receiving money, right?

DSC00548

We taped each bill together, placed them in a wrapped container, attached the last bill to a bow with directions to pull carefully.

DSC00550

I was so excited to see their faces as they pulled the string of money out!

Christmas Eve Celebrations

Our first celebration on Christmas Eve was with Clint’s mom, step-dad, siblings and nephews.  Debbie always cooks SO MUCH FOOD and it is always so very good.  Unfortunately, I wasn’t feeling real well that day, so I didn’t get to enjoy the yummies.  😦  However, it was still a great day being with family.

And, the boys faces, say it all with their gifts:

Good luck getting through that maze:

What a fun first Christmas Celebration!

Our Second Christmas Eve Celebration was with my dad’s side of the family.  I enjoyed chatting with my grandpa, aunt and uncle and cousins.  Always a good time with them. 🙂

Totally wasn’t feeling very well and the pictures definitely show that.  So much for thinking I was doing a good job of hiding it!  Yeesh!

After our  Christmas Eve celebrations we headed back to the city so that we could be home on Christmas morning with Kyle!    We do a LOT of driving during the holidays.  We racked up a total of three trips to Clarinda, IA and back in four days.

Oh hello crappy gas mileage!

Christmas Morning:

Kyle and his pile.  It should be noted that some of those were also from his grandparents.  He was unable to make the Christmas Eve dinner due to his work schedule.

Who remembers High School retail hours?  Thank goodness those days are behind me!

The aftermath.  Even Champ was exhausted!

Clint spoiled me ROTTEN!  I mean, seriously.  A Kitchen Aid Mixer and the Yamaha keyboard I had been wanting.  This thing is legit!  Super excited to play again.  🙂  I have a piano in Clarinda at my dad’s house, however, who wants to haul that thing around?  No thanks.  He can keep it as a clothes hanger.

After we finished our Christmas Day Celebrations at our house, we headed back to Clarinda to spend the afternoon with my mom, step-dad, Bro and Gr’ma.

Mom had a delicious spread of snack foods, lasagna soup, desserts and of course champagne and beer.

We snacked, sipped, opened gifts and shared a lot of laughs.  It was a perfect Christmas Day afternoon.

I am going to leave you with a Rolo Cookie Recipe that I again, only make once a year (like my Caramel Chex Mix), but these cookies only go to my Uncle Craig.  Well, they are made with the intent of just going to him, but my grandpa, aunt and cousins seem to always anticipate their arrival as well. 😉  I found this recipe originally on SixSisters.com.   Those chicks are my recipe heroes.

Enjoy!

Snow, The Nutcracker, Three Generations and Busting My Jeep out of Jail

Considering how cold it is outside, I am questioning my geographical location.  It is already reading ZERO degrees.  What happened to a gradual cool down Nebraska?   Yeesh!  The cold is a bit of a sucker punch, but the snow that came along with it was welcomed with open arms.  It started coming down Saturday night around 11:30pm and didn’t stop for roughly 24 hours (off and on intensity, thank goodness).   Of course, this type of snow fall is what we call White Gold around our house.  My husband runs a business that takes him outdoors to ‘play’ in the white gold and sequentially turns me into a Snow Widow.

Sunday morning, I woke up around 5AM (I know…), gave the hubs a quick call to see how he was holding up, stoked the fire, checked emails and then set out for Zorinsky Lake to take some photos.   (<— Link)

Such a peaceful place in the middle of the City.  One of my faves.

As I was heading home after my attempt at nature photography, my friend Claire called me up and asked if I wanted to meet at Amato’s for breakfast.  Um, yes.  Yes, I do!  She had perfect timing as my stomach was rumbling!

Image

Claire and I both had the two egg, bacon and potato combo.  Never thought I would tell someone to go to a particular restaurant for their bacon, but this is a must.  And the toast.  Holy Yum.  It was a great morning to catch up with Claire and have a warm comfort food style breakfast.  I am told that Amato’s is known for their pancakes.  They throw in Ricotta of all things.  hmm.  I wasn’t feeling adventurous yesterday morning, but I may try them some day.

The rest of my afternoon and into the early evening was spent with my mom and Grandma!

We had a date to see The Nutcracker!

nutcrackerprogram

I love attending events at the Orpheum Theater.  Sitting at over a Century old, the Orpheum provides such a unique experience, almost as if you are being transported back in time.   The artchitecture is magnificent, the furniture detailing unique, the sculptures immaculate.  The Orpheum is a sight to see if only for just a visit.

My grandma recalls attending movies when she was a young child and pointed out a staircase leading to the basement level.  She said that as a child you were able to visit the lowest level, but it has since been closed off due to the dangers of the steep staircase.   I will have to ask her to share more Orpheum stories sometime.  What a wonderful glimpse into that particular time of life it would be.

Three generations!  🙂

We had GREAT seats for the show, sitting at the Grand Tier level, very first row.  The local dancers were absolutely amazing.  The young kids were adorable.  The scenery… stunning!   I was fully engaged and honestly, several scenes left me wanting more.  The grace and beauty and strength.

We followed up the ballet with margaritas (wine for me) at Roja Mexican Grill in the Old Market.  We had planned to hit Nosh, however, with Creighton and Nebraska playing that evening, parking was impossible.  Roja provided us with good guacamole and drinks and a perfect setting to chat.

margs

After our drinks it was time for Mom and Gr’ma to make the 90 mile trip back to Iowa so they drove me to the parking garage I left my jeep in.

That should be a simple task, right?

Ya, Nope.

We found the parking garage locked, cage doors rolled down, and NO ONE to be found.

JAIL!

Apparently, on the weekends, they close up the parking garage after the events at the Orpheum are over.  They failed to mention that to me.  CRAP!

I called the towing company to see if by chance they had towed my vehicle.

Nope.

I called the number of the help desk.

Closed.

I walked over to the gate to see if I could pry it open when all of a sudden my mom heard voices.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

A couple of gentleman were on the other side of the gate getting ready to lay salt down.  One joked with me that I went to the bar and didn’t invite him and then expected him to let me in to get my Jeep.

Yes, sir.  That is exactly right.

Thankfully, they let me bust my Jeep out of Jail without bond.

Thanks OPPD parking garage attendants.  You made this chick’s night!  (And my mom’s as she was not looking forward to driving me across Omaha to my house).

I hope you all had a fulfilling Sunday as well!

So tell me…

Have you gone to a production of The Nutcracker?  What was your favorite scene?
