Life Since July

August.

August always hits with a vengeance and she doesn’t loosen her grip until the end.  Whew! It’s been a ride thus far!

Let’s rewind to the very last week of July when myself and the wives sent our boys to surprise Shaun in California.  Clint and Shaun have been best buddies since they were kids and having him move away earlier this year was a little more tough then I think even they anticipated.  What a fun process it was pulling this off.  I think it’s safe to say they had an incredible time.

So of course while the boys were away, the girls did play!  Dinner, drinks, Kipp Moore and a little Miranda with these wild cats made for a pretty stellar Saturday evening.

And then came August, along with my whirlwind month of on the road work.   From August 1st through August 18th I was only in the office for two full days.   My role takes me into my High Schools and our Center’s to meet with College Early Start students and parents.  This is the only time of the year that my role puts me in direct contact with students and it’s most definitely a nice contrast to the procedures and processes my role brings the rest of the academic year.

This first week of August I was out every single day which made the mornings early and evenings late.  Thank goodness for laptops that give me access to my desktop and processing system otherwise I’d have far more grey hair then I already cover! 😉

Moving along…

Friday, August 5th gave way to a Country Heat Live pop-up class at the YMCA to allow folks to try out the new format, give feedback and win some sweet prizes.  We had a blast dancing our way through some good music and cheesy, but awesome, moves.  Next one is this Friday, August 26th at 5:30pm if you want to give it a go!

image

.

Friday evening was a scheduled double date with Trasa, but work and tired husbands gave way to just a girls date to a quiet tucked away bar in Gretna followed by a few hours at Office West tavern catching up with Heidi.   My heart strings were pulled a wee bit when I rolled home several hours later then anticipated to a garage door open and light on.   It’s always the small things, folks.  Always.

image

.

It should come as no surprise when I tell you I got back on the road on Saturday, August 6th.  This day had me road tripping to Des Moines as a guest instructor for the Iowa Beachbody Coaches Network for their Super Saturday quarterly event.  What a BLAST we had!   First time they’ve ever had a LIVE workout during the event, so they definitely soaked it up.  It gave me a great opportunity to meet some folks who are interested in becoming a certified instructor, and I am looking forward to seeing those relationships continue to grow.   I LOVE seeing new instructors in the field.

This event also got me connected with Angela again who was one of the first gals to go through a Country Heat Live Certification with me.  She’s KILLING it in her community with this offering.

Just love watching people take on new challenges and rocking them.  Makes my heart so happy to watch them bloom.

Once the event wrapped up mid-afternoon I high tailed it back to Omaha and straight out to Clint’s new shop to close out the night with him, our friends and their kiddos.   Perfect ending to a great weekend and whirlwind travel week!

And then the fury that is August continued.   Monday, August 8th, Kayla and I boarded an 8:30pm flight straight to Denver for a 36 hour fly by the seat of our pants trip to hang with Megan and Eric Church.

Ya.  You read that right.

It all started with a joke on FB between Kayla and I about going to Red Rocks to see Eric Church.  Fast forward a few weeks and we received a text from Megan stating “I have your tickets, now book your flights”.

And so, we did!

Now, I need you to know a little about Kayla and I.  In High School, we liked to go on road trips together and like clockwork, we’d get “lost”.   Legit, don’t know how we got here, type of lost.  So, it came as NO surprise that when we landed in Denver, we got separated on the underground shuttle that takes you to baggage claim.

I got on, she didn’t.  We stared at each other through the glass for a split second in disbelief, and then I lost it.   I was laughing, the people next to me were laughing, she laughed, and off we went.

image

.

We reunited and off we went to Megan’s for some late night beers underneath the Denver sky to close out a pretty great Monday night.

We had a low-key start to our Tuesday before heading out to Red Rocks with Megan’s friends Kelsey and Kelly for some incredible tailgating with the most insane views I have ever seen.  Breathtaking.  If you’ve never been to Red Rocks, please go.  Book it, experience it, hike it, enjoy it.  I can’t wait to go back!

Those lights in the background are what makes up downtown Denver.   Obviously poor quality iPhone pics don’t allow you to see the skyscrapers, but trust me, this view of Denver is incredible.

And that little cutie on stage known as Eric Church ain’t half bad either.   😉

And then Wednesday morning came and we were on our way back to the airport for our trip home.

36 hours.

Whirlwind trip.

Worth it 100 times over.

image

.

Once back home, it was back to work for two solid days of traveling before a double certification weekend.  Like I said… in like a Lion that month of August is!

Saturday, August 13th I traveled to Knoxville, IA to certify 5 new instructors in Country Heat Live.  What a FUN crew they were and what an incredible facility.  Knoxville always takes care of me.

image

.

Sunday, August 14th sent me to Clarinda to host a TurboKick Live certification at the Lied Center.  This was a full circle moment for me since Clarinda is my hometown and where I began my group fitness instructing so many years ago.

image

More to come on these certifications later. 😉

.

The week of August 15th had me on the road again for the first half of the week, but we managed to squeeze in a double date Wednesday night with a Harley ride down to Classic Cafe in Malvern, IA for dinner.   If you’ve never been and you live around us, MAKE THIS TRIP!  You will not be disappointed in this little gem of a Cafe/Bar/Restaurant.

image

.

Friday, August 19th Tyree, Claire and I were to go to River Riot concert, but, due to pending bad weather it was postponed, so we went to dinner at Perry’s Place before calling it an early night.  A nice little catch-up session with the girls.   Saturday, August 20th had me working at IWCC from 11-8pm for Welcome Week activities and Reiver Fest.  Back to COLLEGE time for students!

image

.

And we managed to close out Saturday night with Seth and Jen in Malvern for his 40th birthday, complete with confetti!

image

.

Is August up yet?  Nope!  Sunday, August 21st sent me over to Omaha Blue Waves Fitness  to work through some TurboKick certification items with a few ladies in the morning and then I literally crashed on the couch the rest of the day with a few beers.  This chick was WHOOPED!

image

.

I admit I sometimes have no idea if I am coming or going, but I am living in the moment, soaking as much of it in as I possibly can.  Stress?  Smile.   Irritated?  Laugh at it.   Choose to make the most and the best of every situation when you can.

And with that, August continues…

Cheers!

Friday Faves | April 3rd, 2015

It’s been a while since I’ve done a little Friday Fave Feature.

So, why not throw one out!?

1. Annie’s Organic Chocolate Chip Bunnies

If you aren’t careful the whole box will be gone in a second.

image

.

2. Eyelash fill day.

Jessica at Living Beautifully is a rock star.   I have to throw out a public apology to her today, though.  MAN, I was so fidgety.  Who knew laying down for an hour today would have been so difficult?

#restlesslegsyndrome

Maybe it was because I had just left the gym and today was legs day.  Who knows…

image

.

3. Kid Rock’s new album, First Kiss.

It’s different then his earlier Rock N Roll days.   He has gone a little more country and a little more laid back.  It’s taking me a bit to get used to the new vibe, but I dig it.

I just dig him, really.   I’ve seen him in concert a few times and he definitely puts on a helluva show!

image

.

4. Juicy Fruit Bubble Gum.

Obsessed with this gum.  I may or may not have purchased HyVee’s entire stock.  🙂

The bubbles I can get out of this gum are LEGIT!

…And everyone that follows me on Snapchat knows it, too.

<SorryNotSorry>

image

.

5. Spring time

Twice this week I have sat outside to eat dinner or enjoy a post workout shake.   Aww, spring.  I sure do love you.

image

.

6. Gym Rat Tendencies

I am at the gym.  All the time.   I often feel like I live there, whether it is the Y, the IWCC gym or Blue Moon Fitness.  But you know what?  I wouldn’t change it for a second.  I love my part time life. 🙂

#passionfueledlife

And another of my stupid Snapchat faces.   Aren’t you wishing you followed me?  I mean, seriously….

Cheers to a wonderful Easter weekend, friends. ❤

Ridiculously Awesome Friday

 image

This morning started much like any other day.  Up early, ready to get my workout done and a FB post ready to go up for my private challenge group.  I started off by hitting the hotel gym, which ended up being an 8×8 box with a treadmill and an elliptical, so I took it to the outdoors.   24 degrees and a few miles was a great wake-up call.

Once back in my room I started working on my post for my challengers when I felt the urge to take it in a new direction.   Instead of just focusing on our physical health and wellness, I decided to expand it to our overall wellness and challenge them to pay it forward.  I didn’t tell them how or what to do, but to just find a way to make someone else’s day a little better.  Anytime you can bring a smile to someone’s day results in a win-win situation.  I actually even shared the idea, along with the above photo, on both my personal and blog FB pages as well.

Little did I know how ridiculously amazing my Friday would become.

My meetings wrapped up around 11am so I took the extra free time and traveled to Jordan Creek Mall for a little me time.   One of my first stops ended up being Starbucks with the idea to pay it forward by purchasing coffee for the person standing behind me.   While in line I noticed the gal immediately behind me had a gift card so I decided to hold off on purchasing hers and instead picked up a $5 card to pass on to someone else.  While waiting for my order several other folks got in line, but no one that I seemed drawn to.  It was only when I was walking out that a mother pushing a stroller with her little baby caught my eye.  Her stroller actually got nudged in my way a bit as I was making my way out of the store and she immediately apologized.  I stopped and asked if she was heading into Starbucks, to which she answered yes.  I then told her I wanted to pay it forward to someone that day and that I was choosing her.  She looked at me in astonishment and said “Really? Oh, thank you.”.

Her smile and that moment totally made my day.

I passed the card over, told her to enjoy her coffee and turned to go on my way.

image

Thanks Starbucks for helping me pass on a smile.

After I left Starbucks, I made my way over to Express to browse and of course found a portfolio dress and a couple pairs of earrings right off the bat. (Express never fails me)

The dress alone was tagged at $88.   All of my items should have added up to $140ish after taxes.

Want to know what I paid?

$35

The dress was on clearance (no tags indicating that) as was one of the pairs of earrings.  Didn’t have any idea until at the register.   Seriously.  Did that just happen?   I also had just returned a pair of running shoes for a different pair and saved $90 on those.  This day was turning out to be pretty darn spectacular if you ask me!

image

.

I called my day a success and headed back towards Homaha.   A good 2 hours of loud music, open road and sunny skies.  It was perfect.

Once home I was greeted with this cute fella and a backyard ready for cement.  I love the formation he chose to do.  Sometimes he has a pretty cool vision that I don’t understand until laid out in front of me.  I dig it!

image

.

Then the mail came!  GUESS WHAT GOT DELIVERED?!

image

My soon to be new saddlebags!  Hell yes!!   Now for it to warm up a bit so Clint can get these suckers painted. 🙂

.

Also in the mail….this.

Hands down the greatest, most heartfelt gift I’ve received in a while.   Of course from my bestie, Kayla.  She knew how nervous I was and how much self-doubt I was pumping myself full of before my audition. (<– link)  But, she, in return, pumped me full of positive chats and encouragement.   That phone call to Kayla the night I auditioned was hands down the most exciting phone call to make.   She shared that excitement right along with me.  Very cool moment.  This gift is absolutely perfect.  Thank you, Kayla.  Thank you. ❤

Again… I had no idea just how freaking awesome this Friday was going to be.

So, moving on with the day, Clint and I decided on taco’s for dinner, so a quick trip to the grocery store turned out to be an entertaining one.  You guys… I might seriously start a new feature on the blog showcasing the conversations I have when I wear my Insanity Instructor jacket.

Yep… you remember the first conversation, right?  (Find it here).  Well, tonight’s story led to a fun conversation with a fella named Shawn.   Shawn stopped me in the popcorn aisle with the line:

“Excuse me, but, I just have to say that you are absolutely striking.”

I graciously thanked him, shook his hand and thus began the Q&A session of what Insanity is, how I became an instructor, where I teach, etc.  And then this question happened…

Are you single?

…..

<Cue awkward moment for poor Shawn>

No, my friend I am not.

He then congratulated the lucky fella (who was at home) and told me to have a wonderful evening.

Likewise, my new friend.

And kuddos to you for having the guts to ask.

This jacket.   It really does bring out some fabulous conversations.  .

 image

.

The Friday just keeps getting better because as I was making dinner my mom and step-dad walk in the door!  SURPRISE!  They had a few minutes to kill before attending the Omaha Symphony, so they just decided to swing by and say hello. I love visitors! 🙂

image

.

image

You can’t tell Clint’s been playing in the mud all day at all!

.

And then it was time for a delicious dinner, chats with my hubby and now sweet sweet bed.

image

.

Who knew my Friday would actually turn into a ridiculously amazing day?  I mean, I knew it was going to be a good one.  Most days are what you make of them, right?   But this day.  THIS FRIDAY, just turned into a straight up spectacular one.

Cheers.

Friday Fun Run

Today I got in a 6 mile run.  It wasn’t planned.  It was getting late.   I had alllllll sorts of reasons why I could have avoided it.

I had, after-all, spent the day on the couch.  Did some online shopping, did some research work, read a lot, wrote a little, watched the IA/NE game…

Late afternoon I just decided I needed to get up and move.  So, I picked 6 miles as my goal and went for it.

image

It was a gorgeous 50 degree afternoon.  A very nice change of pace since it has been bitter cold and windy for days!

image

I was running strong until mile 5ish.

And then my pace plummeted.  And NOT for the reasons you think.   Tired, worn out…. nope!

Lack of attention.

I started texting people about riding the Harley’s tomorrow and another friend about some tips for running in the winter.   Man, my attention span is whack sometimes.

image

Following my run I made a quick trip to Target for a few items and had all intentions of getting my second Christmas tree up and decorated once back home.

You know what happened?

I locked myself OUT of my Jeep.   Seriously.

If anyone can find a way to lock themselves out of a NEW Jeep with NEW technology in a key fob, it WOULD be me.  I am the master of stupid stuff like this.

I think what happened was when I was throwing my items (including my purse) in the backseat, my lock button got tripped, so when I shut the door and went to the front door it was locked.  And the red security button was glowing brightly.   The little magic unlock button on the outside wouldn’t even work.  They key fob was inside, so apparently it though I was inside as well and was NOT going to let an outsider in.

Great.

Luckily my friend Claire moved in to a new town home not far from my home (she actually moved today!), so she came to my rescue….

…but not until after I sat on the curb for a bit looking like a creepy car stealing bastard.

image

Eh.  What can ya do but laugh?

Cheers to a super weekend, y’all!
