Wine and Junk Run | October 24th, 2015

October 24th marked my friend Sara’s first Wine and Junk Run hosted by her shop SW Iowa Primitives, Antiques and Furniture.

wineandjunk1

What exactly is a Wine and Junk run you ask?  Similar to a Poker Run where you pay an entry fee, receive a flyer of participating stops where you either draw a card or receive a stamp to mark your attendance and slowly make your way back to Stop 1 where there is typically food, drink and prizes.   They are a great way to fund-raise money typically for a great cause and always a guaranteed good times with friends and new friends you make along the way.   This particular run consisted of vehicles and stops at various Primitive and Antique shops/boutiques and a few wineries.

Jessica and I made our way down from Omaha at 10am to catch the 11am signup and were well on our way by 11:30am.  Oh what a day we had.

Stop #1 Wabash Wine Co. Shenandoah

image

This location has been open for 10 years and now includes a restaurant.   We stayed for wine sampling of 5 different wines, all of which were either sweet red or whites.   No dry for me!  Jess bought a bottle of sweet red, we signed the guest book and made our way out to Stop #2!

Stop #2 Ray ‘s Shabby Cottage, Shenandoah, IA

A lot of neat furniture pieces and many other goodies can be found at Ray’s.  Definitely check out their facebook page (linked above) or stop in if you are near Shenandoah!

.

Stop #2.5 Emerald Isle and a random school house.

Because we wanted a beer and a bite to eat.   As for the school house stop, don’t ask.  Does there need to be a reason other then we are just a bunch of kids at heart with random ideas for entertainment?

image

Plus, Hunter is Jessica’s niece. We thought it was fitting.

Stop #3 Sugar Clay Winery & Vineyards, Thurman, IA

We definitely had the most fun at Sugar Clay Winery in Thurman, IA.   Beautiful location, friendly and accommodating owners, fairy-tale like setting.  The perfect package for an afternoon with girlfriends.

Because who doesn’t love a good tree huggin’?

We sat around an imaginary camp fire and enjoyed everyone’s company, despite the looks of pure un-enthusiasm from this crew. 😉  They were having a great time, I promise.

Ms. Sara, Jess and I.

Janice, Erin and Ardie (Three Generations)

We spent a solid amount of time here, proof in the off the wall photos.

And then it was time to move on to Stop #4.

but not before we paused briefly for some senior photos.

Again, don’t ask.  We do what we do and that’s reason enough for us.

Perhaps wine had something to do with it as well…

Stop #4 Mitzi Mo’s Boutique, Glenwood, IA

mitzi

She has TONS of cute stuff in her store.  From chalk paint, to jewelry, to baked goodies and a little of everything in between.  Definitely worth your time to swing into this quaint little store off the town square in Glenwood, IA

Stop #5 Vine Street Cellars, Glenwood, IA

Vine Street Cellars in Glenwood is located right on the town square and is a very clean, fresh and sophisticated winery.  We liked our visit, as did Janice, Erin and Ardie. 🙂

Stop #6 SW Iowa Primitives. Emerson, IA

The last stop took everyone back to Emerson for some delicious food cooked by Troy and Sara as well as prizes and fun for all involved.   Jessica and I were unfortunately unable to make the stop due to a Halloween party and costume change I had on my agenda, however, the entire day was a success!

Rumor has it Sara is making next years run even bigger and better with more stops at shops and wineries.   Make sure to join in on the fun next year!

Cheers!

Weekend in Review | September 25th-27th

Clarinda, IA is the theme of September.   Between Clint and I, we have been in that little town every weekend, whether together or separate.  It was suggested we “just move back already“.

Um.  Nope.

🙂

slp2

While we DO love Clarinda, we DON’T love it enough to move back any time soon.

We both have our careers based in or near Omaha.   We love being near the city.  What we both miss is the country living.    If my adult country home could have been moved 90 miles closer, I’d still be in it.  🙂  What we plan is to move to the country again someday, but staying near Omaha will be our thing.

So, ya, about that weekend recap.

Friday afternoon Clint and I took off on the bikes to Clarinda to help Kayla work on her new salon she has been tirelessly working on for a few months now.   Getting closer to opening day and it’s looking AWESOME!  (Pssst… Check out Wild Fire Salon and Spa Facebook page).

The girls painted and the boys hung the air ducts.

Megan and Nikki were even back from Colorado so it was actually a lot of fun painting and catching up with those two crazy chicks.

Saturday

Kayla and I started the morning off right with a walk around the boulevard.   It was a crisp, GORGEOUS morning so we took advantage of it before starting work for the day.   After our walk and a quick stop for breakfast we made our way to get more paint while our husbands, being the ever-jokesters, picked up roadkill and left it for us.  Thinking they were so cute, they parked across the way to watch our reactions.   We simply laughed and hopped in.   Jokes on them since they had to pick it up twice to move it.  Those boys.

image

.

The rest of Saturday consisted of more painting for the gals and sign removal for the boys.

They have a VERY short attention and work span sometimes…. after the sign was removed and this photo taken, they mysteriously disappeared for the remainder of the afternoon.    😉

image

.

Around 4:30 I had to ditch the work to get ready for the evening.  Clint and I had professional photos scheduled with the Harley’s.  Jade so graciously rode my bike to our first location so I could have somewhat volume in this thin hair of mine.

image

Once our first photos were taken – it was game on.

image

.

Our photographer had us do several shots riding and then she took us to two different locations around the community.   This dirt road was location #3 and a perfect spot to close out the night. ❤

image

.

We had such a fun time with our photographer, Heather.  I am STOKED to see what she captured.   Her artistic mind and imagery is incredible.

image

Clint was all smiled out for our end of the night selfie.  HA!  What a cheeser.

After our photos we headed back to the Hagey’s to get our trailer and warmer clothes, loaded up, headed to my dad’s for about an hour chat and made our way back to the city.

We were in our garage safe and sound by 11:30pm!  It was a chilly night, but the riding was great (as always) and the moon was INCREDIBLE!

SUNDAY

I have done laundry, run errands, practiced Round 66 TK and am now finishing up this blog entry so I can get in a run.  I will close out the night studying and making my outline for Saturday the 3rd.

image

What’s Saturday you ask?

My FIRST OFFICIAL training as a Master Trainer Ambassador.   EEEKKKK!!!!!   After this certification I will earn my Master Trainer title.

Dudes…. I am freaking.  More to come on that.

Cheers!

Andy Stroud

December 29th, 1982 – September 11, 2015

.

Andy Jacob Stroud was born December 29, 1982 in Hamburg, Iowa to Steven Stroud and Melissa (Scroggs) Stroud. On May 5, 2007, Andy married his childhood sweetheart Shala Williams and on February 15, 2011 they were blessed with a baby girl, Alyse Jordyn and are expecting their second daughter in December.

Andy enjoyed life to the fullest which always included spending lots of time with his daughter Alyse and wife Shala, brother Joshua and many nights in James and Pam’s garage.

Andy loved fast hot trucks and cars with shinny buttons and loud music. He was a fantastic cook and no one ever left his home hungry or thirsty. Many nights were spent huddled on the couch with Bubba (Alyse) watching movies, TV (Ninja Turtles), playing games on his phone and even playing dress up.  Andy was an incredible father, Alyse was his pride and joy; he once posted on Facebook “God, I love this child”. Nights also included mowing the yard, doing laundry and cleaning house and working on cars with his brother, Josh.

Andy gave everyone he encountered so much; his love, friendship, guidance.  He was known to be a “partner in crime” to some.

Andy was very blessed.

He knew the love of Shala. She gave him his courage, strength, peace and immeasurable joy in his life.  He thanked God for her every day.  Andy knew the unconditional love and adoration of his princess Alyse. She gave him so much pure joy each and every day from the moment of her birth.  He already loved his second daughter and would have treasured her as well.

Andy never knew a stranger; to meet him, was to become a friend and his friends were family.

Andy will be greatly missed by all.

…But he will be forever in their hearts.

The road ahead for Shala, Alyse, family and friends is long and one that many can’t imagine having to encounter.  Please, keep them in your prayers, hold them in your thoughts and reach out a helping hand when and where you can.

The journey will be difficult, but there is much comfort in knowing Andy is there and present in their day to day lives; watching over and protecting.
