The Month of May | 2017

Hi Friends!  How about a little Weekend in Review — the month of May style?   May was a whirlwind of events leaving behind nothing but incredible memories and maybe even a little nostalgia for it all to happen again.

The month came in with a bang as we celebrated our favorite bride-to-be Jessica for several days straight.

From the innocence of elementary dance and “smoking” candy cigs in the barn; to mid-twenties shenanigans and foolishness that Erin, Jess and I often found ourselves in (oh, the stories you’d hear if those walls of 12939 Camden Ave could speak); to an adult friendship built on truth, authenticity and trust; I’d say Jess and I have figured out this friendship thing quite nicely.  She’s the real deal, y’all and it was a ton of fun helping prep for her big day.

.

We started with her Bachelorette party on Thursday evening at The Magnolia.

Prior to heading up to the room, the three amigos stopped at the lobby bar for a drink.  This was the first time Erin, Jess and I had been together and drinking at a bar in YEARS.  Jessica of course looked like a doll,  Erin was jet lagged and insisted on sunglasses and I had my gum on full display.   This about sums us up.

.

.

Thanks to Lega’s impeccable planning and attention to detail, the get-together was exactly what Jessica wanted.   An intimate evening with her closest girlfriends, booze, snacks, games and girl talk.

.

Friday rolled around and a few of us headed down to the wedding venue to load in the hay bales and hang up lights in preparation for Saturday’s main event.  Then it was time for the bridal shower at Nosh Bar in the Old Market.   Again, another evening of fun with Jess’s friends and family.

.

And then Saturday.  THE day. ❤  First order of events:  re-stock of beer in the cooler, vehicle swap for the Impala, a drive-by pickup of Erin and hotel bound to get dolled up for the wedding.

.

.

.

.

.

.

One of Jessica’s top requests long before they had even set an official date was her desire to use Clint’s Impala as her mode of transportation.  I couldn’t have been more happy to drive that sexy beast around for the day.  Add all these hotties in the vehicle too??   I’m not saying we caused any accidents that day, but we certainly garnered a few head-turns. 😉

.

Right before we walked the aisle.  ❤

.

It was an absolutely BEAUTIFUL day.  Couldn’t have asked for better weather for the outdoor event.  Sugar Clay Winery provided a stunning location, impeccable service, the yummiest food and wine and an open carefree environment.

And heck yes I changed into chucks.   There’s only so many hours of heels that are appropriate. 🙂

.

And this man performed his first wedding ceremony as an ordained officiant.   He did a great job, humor and all.

What a stud.

The next weekend consisted of quality time on the bike, cat snuggles, beers, baseball games and mom’s day.

.

.

.

Did I mention I failed at sunblock while watching baseball?  Like, FAIL, FAIL!

.

Clint and I took off on the bikes to Clarinda to spend mothers day with our mama’s and a sweatshirt was quite necessary for me to prevent burn on burn.  And hot as hell!  Seriously will never understand the folks who wear full gear on hot summer days.  I don’t buy the safety thing as heat exhaustion climbs high on the un-safe-o meter, if you ask me.

An afternoon with mom, grams and fam, I found myself making my way back to Omaha on my own as Clint had already left from his moms earlier in the day.  I know you’ve heard it from me before, but I say it again… I cherish those miles and days just me and my girl.  Someday I will take off on a multi-day roadtrip just me and her.  Someday….. someday.

.

And just like that we were into the third weekend of May, and most importantly, Liz and Andy’s WEDDING! ❤   Tracy, Tyree and I were asked to decorate the reception venue so we headed down around noon to get things set up and glowing before the big event.    The weather was less then stellar that day, but the fun going down on the inside far outweighed any of that.   The ceremony was PERFECT, the couple shared their smiles and tears through their beautiful vows and then we partied the night away.

I also went blonde somewhere in the middle of month as well.   Summer hair, friends! 🙂

.

.

.

We finished the weekend with three graduation parties + a pretty fun road-trip with the Miller newlyweds and before we knew it, Memorial Weekend happened.

.

For four days my Jeep was parked and my two wheels were out to play.  Friday night consisted of an Iowa bar hop with Tyree, Cole and friends from Colorado.   We did about a 150 mile loop through SW Iowa, met some interesting folks and even got our thrills riding on roads that some would consider sketch after dark.

.

Saturday we took a little jaunt up to Cottonwood Marina for a late lunch, overpriced drinks and cheesy ass smiles from the hubs.

.

Sunday we made our way down to Clarinda with the Larson’s for a little afternoon BBQ and beers with the Hagey’s.  It was an easy day of conversation, beer drinking and damn good food.  And for once the boys were pretty well-behaved!   I know – equally as shocking for us when that happens.

.

The ride home proved to be the best ride of the weekend thanks to one of the most beautiful sunsets we have seen.

.

Monday provided a day of cat snuggles, a full Jeep detail and wax, bike wash, another quick solo ride around the city, cut short as the weather had turned cold and my tanktop was NOT cutting it and an evening of water chugging trying to combat the bloat of the weekend.

.

And let’s not forget about my Papio Trail run (refer back to water statement above) where someone decided living room furniture would be a good gift to those on the trail.  For relaxing purposes I guess.

Thanks, no thanks??

.

Cheers friends!   I hope your June is off to an incredible start!   Four days in already, before you know it we will be into July!  Enjoy the heck out of every minute of everyday.

And always Be Present.

Weekend Recap | November 11-13, 2016

Saturday, November 12th
2016_11_14_10_07_14_greenshot

I could end the post right here.

Done.

End of Story.

But, what’s the use of a hangover without the story of how it came to be?

Let’s rewind to Friday.

.

Friday, November 11th

First of all let me say Thank You to our veterans for your time served and to our current armed forces who continue to serve.

Thank You.

Second: Happy Birthday to my mama!  11/11 was also HER day! 🙂

Now, to the bane of my Saturday?  Friday night.

img_1331

.

We traveled north to Sioux City, IA to see the Turnpike Troubadors in concert with Jade, Kayla, Scott, Haley, Josey and Stephanie.  It was a ridiculously fun night.  Turnpike was INCREDIBLE to listen to… again, music geek in me can’t get enough of good music and TRUE musicianship that these guys exude.

img_1364

.

We let loose, we drank a few too many beers, we stayed our ground in the front of the venue holding steady to the gate, we flirted with the band, we sang along loudly and we made every ounce of that hangover totally worth it.

.

.

Is it me, or is Jade channeling Alan from the movie, The Hangover?

img_1385

.

We even managed to hang out with both bands (opener and headliner) after the concert at a local tavern, to which I awkwardly attempted small talk about music (listen Jordan, don’t talk after 10 beers) and Kayla took endless photos with the groups.

.

After hours snap chats = lame tag lines.   We love Friday’s?

Really, Jordan?

*insert giant eye roll*

img_1359

.

Thank GOODNESS social media didn’t exist when we were all in High School.   It’s bad enough as adults.

img_1391

.

img_1353

.

Friday kinda rocked, and I am ready to do it again, minus the heavy amounts of beer.

img_1328

.

So then there is Saturday again.

It looked like this:

  • 3am – Arrive back to hotel safely thanks to kind cabi who received quite a tip after my sober mind calculated.  I’m sure she deserved every penny.
  • 3:10am – Snap Clint attempting 16 times to open the hotel door.  It was classic.  Score 1 for Jordan catching that gem on video.
  • 6am – First wake-up call, thanks due to a rager of a headache
  • 7am – Wake-up again.  Headache and all…
  • 8am – Restroom.  Oh, hey there rumbling belly.  I hear you and I am answering by laying back down.
  • 8:30am – Respond to Kayla’s text.  Commiserating.
  • 9am – Dear LORD this headache.  Curse the fact I need water but curse the fact I am not sure my stomach can handle even that.
  • 9:30am – Respond to Kayla’s text re: lobby and breakfast.
  • 10:30am – Clint wakes ready to take on the world ( his ability to NEVER have a headache nor hangover really sucks sometimes)
  • 11am – Bid farewell to the crew and head back to Omaha.   Radio off, shades on, air full blast, with minor attempts to tune my overly-chatty husband out.  Dude… headache.
  • 1pm – Homaha – drop husband off at home so he can load truck up with hunting gear and head out to Clarinda.
  • 1:30pm- Pick up race gear for Beer and Bagel run on Sunday
  • 2pm – Home.  Hallmark Christmas Movie. Nap.
  • 4pm- Grocery store for hangover worthy snacks that are always top notch on the healthy pyramid.
  • 5pm – Dinner.  Hallmark Christmas Movie.  Nap
  • 8pm –  Succumb to just letting Saturday be a total wash and go to bed.

Sunday, November 13th

Let’s all take a moment and rejoice in the fact that I got out of bed at 6:30am and was ready to run the Beer and Bagel 4 mile trail run at 9am.

Can I get a Hallelujah?   Can I get an Amen?

.img_1372.

img_1365

.

Blair is a trail running PRO!  She recently ran a 50K.   Yes, you read that right.  50K = 31.08 miles.  So, I laughed at her for wanting to still run this with me.   It’s 4 miles.  That’s like her warm-up nowadays.  But, thankfully, she did it and we had fun and I appreciate her grace in not rubbing in the fact that this is peanuts to her distance legs.

I might consider running the 13.1 trail run next year.  Trail running is SO much better than road running.  It is so much more forgiving on the joints since you are on soft ground and uneven terrain that forces you to take it easy and watch where you are going, rather then operate as a robot and pound the pavement.  Running the 13.1 Beer and Bagel run in 2017 is a definite thought.  A consideration.

We will see. 🙂

img_1371

.

After the race I napped again.  DUDE!  WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?!    I think it was a culmination of three days in a row last week of getting up by 3:10am on top of the minimal water and shenanigans on Friday night.  My body was O.V.E.R. it.

I forced myself into partial civilization on Sunday afternoon when I bundled up and went out on the HD, just her and I.   It’s that time of the year when the hubs is gone hunting on the weekends and I get my coveted solo ride time in when the weather is cooperating.

I managed to burn through a full tank of gas and it was all sortsa magical.

Solo rides = no destination.  No planned stops.   Just a direction, the roll of the throttle and a big ass smile on my face.  🙂

Although, this snap looks like I don’t even have a head, let alone a face for a smile.

But my front wheel looks B.A.

.

Cheers to a GREAT weekend!

Labor Day Weekend 2016

I hope this finds you all coming off of a well spent Labor Day weekend and if you were anything like me, getting back into the swing of things on this Mondayest Tuesday was a little on the rough side.  Let’s just say I felt every last adult beverage leaving my pores at the gym today.  Good thing I did two classes AND lifted, because my body needed it.

Friday night Clint and I packed my purse full of our favorite tallboys and hit up the theater for a popcorn fueled dinner with entertainment provided by the latest Jason Bourne movie.

…all while sporting our favorite team gear in anticipation of College Football Opening Weekend.

image

Spoiler Alert: One of my fave actresses sees the end of her run AND this movie is totally left open for more.

Saturday

We made our way down to Coburg, IA where Clint assisted in the tear down of an old barn while I got to have fun with Sara’s babes.

Kaeleen is little Ms. Conversationalist with a sense of adventure and fun at every moment.

image

And Ms. Adyson is a mix of sugar and spice with that sweet innocent smile and mischievous glisten in her eye.  She was quite the helper by assisting me with the transportation of snacks for the boys. 😉

image

We played Frisbee, volleyball, swang on the swing-set, watched the boys work and played in Clint’s truck and trailer.   Adventures and imaginations were abundant.

image

.

image

.

image

.

image

.

At the end of the day this old barn had been torn down, boards salvaged, treasures were found and ideas for reusing the boards had just begun.

Saving history one re-purpose at a time.

image

Follow Troy and Sara’s business page for their newest treasures and creations at  SW Iowa Primitives, Antiques & Furniture.

And if you are interested in making your own creations from salvaged barn board, contact Clint at Walkup Wood Products to get your hands on them!

Around dinner time, Clint took off to Clarinda to help clean up the farm for our annual Pirtlefest shenanigans in a few weeks while I made my way to Villisca to hang with my girl Tina for the remainder of the night.   What started off as a few hours of chatting on the back deck turned into nearly 5!  Beautiful evening, good conversation and ice cold drinks.  Can’t beat that!

Sunday

A day on the bikes with the girls!  And of course it would rain on us on our first leg of the journey to DC’s Waterhole in Plattsmouth, NE.

image

But, while we dried out, one of the owners so kindly bought us a round of the most delicious lemon drop shots we have ever had.   Lemon flavored sugar was the secret ingredient to this yumminess.   Next time you are near Plattsmouth, be sure to stop in to DC’s and get yourself one!  Promise you won’t be disappointed!

image.

Out next stop landed us at Sugar Clay Winery for their last Sangria Sunday.  We enjoyed live music, the most delicious sangria I’ve ever had, yummy snacks and great conversations.

image

.

After we filled our bellies and spent ample time at the winery, we headed back out and aimed East, which naturally landed us by Hunter School outside of Tabor, IA.   Somehow over the last few years, Jessica and I have made it a tradition to jump off the stairs.   What is a simple and quite juvenile act has turned into one of the most hilarious traditions.   If you can’t let loose and act ridiculous with your friends, then you have the wrong friends. 🙂

image

.

After wasting an inordinate amount of time, we lined up like a little duck family for a photo session…

image

.

and continued East to Imogene, IA for some little beers at the Emerald Isle before landing in Silver City, IA at The Hood for some juke box blaring, bar floor stretching, random dancing entertainment.

road

Let’s just say we made the bartenders day, because while he gave off the vibe that he wasn’t paying one bit of attention to us, we know he secretly enjoyed the nonsense we provided for an hour.  We even had a surprise visit by Liz and Andy on their way out on the town!

image

What is the source of all these photos, you ask?

A helmet visor, similar to Darth Vader or some alien source.  We aren’t quite sure.  But, what we do know, is Tracy rocks that thing like none other.

image

.

And this is where we continued our trek back towards the city and landed at the Back Room Lounge outside of Glenwood, IA for some dinner and friendly conversation with Rat, who found it completely inappropriate that I was merely borrowing a few chips from the counter.  Locals… jeesh! 😉

image

.

Sunday concluded with a BEAUTIFUL sunset ride back to the City that wrapped up a pretty stellar little day of riding.

image

.

Labor Day Monday included a deep cleaning of the house, up and down, yard work, vehicle cleaning and meal prepping for the short week.

September has started off on the right foot and has the promise of continuing that streak with an upcoming anniversary road-trip to Illinois with Clint, Pirtlefest and Bikes Blues & BBQ!

Cheers!

June 2016 Wrap-Up

Final two weekends of June in review starring:

Harley’s, Beers, Best Buds and the Hubs.

image

Two weekends ago I parked the Jeep on a Thursday night and didn’t get back in it until the following Monday morning.   I miss those days like summers past.  Teaching + Summers Off = no 4 wheels unless I had to.  Life now doesn’t give me that luxury anymore, so when I get the opportunity, I take full advantage!

Friday, June 17th

Jeans Day Friday’s is my favorite day of the work week.  These have only been implemented in the last year and when it did, my Harley and I sent a Thank You note to our President.

No, I am definitely not kidding.

This was big time, kids.  BIG TIME!

image

.

An invite to Testicle Festival in South Bend, NE with a group of friends had us on the road for a fun little Friday.

image

An evening of cold beers and fried testicles?  How could you say no to that?  😉  After a handful of hours, four of the five couples in attendance decided to ride down to Louisville to Heron Bay, my fave little bar on the river.  Unfortunately some bike issues had Tracey and I sidelined while we waited for the boys to work their magic a few miles back.   The neighborhood dogs didn’t much appreciate our presence, however, the neighbors were eager to help out a few damsels in distress.  Even offered a beer while we waited.  Thanks small town Nebraska.

image

.

Soon after we were rolling on home to a sweet lightening show and a few sprinkles.  A most perfect and serene Friday night ride.  Some of the best!

Saturday, June 18th

Each year Tyree and I head out on a Thelma and Louise day, without the lunatic ending.  The last few years we’ve used it as a not-so-dry run to the annual B!tch run.  I like to test out my map, check the roads, notify the bar owners of the date and use that day as my chance to make any necessary adjustments, which works out perfect.  Our day began at 10am and we were off!

image

.

Slightly overcast in the morning but after a few of these ridiculous shots of hell, recommended by a bar patron, we were nice and warmed up.

image

.

Many miles, new friends and laughter later, our photos always turn into nonsense.

image

Certainly nothing to do with these…

.

Now the question is, were these our shots of schnapps and crown … or something more yummy and a new location?

We don’t shot and tell.

image

.

A perfectly magnificent Thelma and Louise day and have the 11th Annual B!tch Run nailed down.  Check Check to another lovely June summer day.

Sunday, June 19th – Father’s Day

Due to an unfortunate last minute Fathers Day plan cancellation courtesy of an illness,  I found myself flying solo Father’s Day morning.

Which was a-ok with me!

image

.

I set out mid-morning for some solo riding, of which are most often my favorite rides.  I started riding 12 years ago and when I wasn’t on a poker run (which seemed to be every single weekend back in the day), I rode on my own during the weekdays.   I’d set out in a direction and go, just me and my Sporty.   I was in a deep transition period both physically and mentally while I was closing out my life in Clarinda and making the plans for a clean slate in Omaha.  It’s those solo rides that always put everything into perspective and truly helped define who I was.  I still love those solo rides and heading out on Father’s Day Sunday was like a breath of fresh air.  I rode all the backroads leading out of NE into IA for a few hours and then soon found myself in Clarinda, crashing Clint’s fathers day plans with his dad, Kyle and the rest of the fam bam.   Ok, so I didn’t crash it, I was always welcome, but I had planned to be elsewhere, so I like to say I crashed it. 🙂

image

.

They had just gotten in from riding the horses around the acreage when I rolled in.   How cute is this pic of Clint and Kyle?   They are alike in so many ways.

riding

.

A few hours of shooting the shit, beers and dinner on the breezeway was a perfect ending to what started out as a botched Sunday.

fathersday

And then it was time to roll!

image

.

For my two-wheeled riders, you know how much gravel sucks.   But, I’ll do it.  Just give me time.

image

.

Tuesday, June 21st.

Justin Bieber – Lincoln, NE.

Brooke had some extra tickets.

Jessica asked, “wanna go?”

I said, “You bet!”

Belieber?  Nope.   Life experiences?  Yep.

image

.

Bieber was a total douche on stage, lacked enthusiasm in the worst way imaginable, rarely interacted with the audience and was so self-righteous he paused to take at least 6 water breaks during the concert and made a complete spectacle of it by pausing all music, standing center stage, spotlight on him.

While he chugged a water bottle.

Really, Biebs?  REALLY?

Get over yo’self.

image

.

Friday, June 24th

Date night with my hubby and my first glance at his newest bulletin board!  Walkup Woods is coming along, folks!

image

.

Saturday, June 25th

A day of riding through Southwest Iowa with Tina, dodging rain drops and rain clouds.

image

.

A few hours spent with Troy, Sara and their two girls in the late afternoon before heading back to Omaha for dinner with Clint, his mom and Gaylen rounded out Saturday and as for Sunday, an early afternoon INSANITY class followed by some pool and sun time with Claire and Briton.  I might have gotten schooled on Shopkins too. 🙂

Basically,

Summer needs to NEVER end.

image

Cheers!

Weekend in Review | June 12th

Just a mini post and recap.  Don’t get too excited.

A last minute invite to Lee Brice on a Thursday night was just the ticket for a warm summer evening!  Beer, girlfriends, roof tops and a nice breeze  = winning in my book.  Thanks, T for the ticket and Stir Cove for a cool view! 🙂

image

.

FINALLY I am digging my soft top.   Let me tell ya… it’s a dream removing but a nightmare putting back on.  What the WHAT?  Let’s just say, if I get caught in a rainstorm, I’m going to be soaked by the time that bad boy is back on.image

Working on that lat development.  I see you.   I see you.

.

Weddings are always a joy.   Especially when we get to play dress up.

Congrats Bailie Skidmore Preston.  You were stunning!

Weekend rides are always my fave summer activity.  Even if it’s 100 million degrees out there.

And I am convinced that laid back Sunday’s consisting of driveway tinkering, tv watching and grocery store shopping is the way to live life.

Currently gearing up to roll out Country Heat Live – Beachbody Live’s newest group exercise format.   It was a TON of fun to be one of 30 master Trainer’s on a call with our CEO Carl Daikeler and the one and only Autumn Calabrese, maker of 21 Day Fix and Country Heat.

Get excited folks.  You should get certified.  Even if you have never taught before – this one is right up your alley.  Small town folks, this is me looking at you.   Don’t be shy.  Get on this bandwagon!

Do you see me?!?!

Hint: I love hats.

😉

Cheers to June and this amazing summer HEAT!!!
