Music Monday 4 | Rise Above This | Seether

In honor of Seether coming to Sokol Auditorium in Omaha tomorrow night, today’s Music Monday brings you:

Rise Above This by Seether

Rise Above This was inspired by the suicide of Seether frontman Shaun Morgan’s brother.   In 2012, Shaun was interviewed on the band’s upcoming Rise Above This Fest, which was an all day music festival centered around awareness and prevention of teen suicide.

“It sparks the kind of conversation I’m not very comfortable with,” Morgan acknowledges. “People know what (‘Rise Above This’) is about, I know what it’s about but that doesn’t mean I want to talk about it. But it’s definitely been a song people tell me has been uplifting and that they listen to in times of need. It’s helped them get through certain moments in their lives and it’s been a comfort and solace to them. That’s what it does for me, too, so the intention of the song worked. It’s definitely had a positive effect, but it can be quite heavy to deal with when you hear the stories.”

Suicide is never the answer.  Please become educated and aware.  Be the help that someone needs.

“Rise Above This”

Take the light, and darken everything around me
Call the clowns and listen closely, I’m lost without youCall your name every day when I feel so helpless
I’m fallen down but I’ll rise above this, rise above thisHate the mind, regrets are better left unspoken
For all we know, this void will grow
Everything’s in vain, distressing you though it leaves me open
Feels so right, but I’ll end this all before it gets meCall your name every day, when I feel so helpless
I’ve fallen down (fallen down), but I’ll rise above this, rise above this
Call your name everyday, when I seem so helpless
I’ve fallen down (fallen down), and I’ll rise above this, rise above this doubt

I’ll mend myself before it gets me
(I’ll mend myself before it gets me)
I’ll mend myself before it gets me
(I’ll mend myself before it gets me)

Call your name every day, when I feel so helpless
I’ve fallen down but I’ll rise above this, rise above this
Forty-eight ways to say that I’m feelin’ helpless
I’ve falling down, falling down, but I’ll rise above this, rise above this, rise above this, rise above this doubt

I stumbled across this song sometime early this summer and fell in love.   Everybody has different reasons as to why a song speaks to them.  Sometimes it’s worth an explanation – other times it isn’t.   Music speaks for itself and how a person decodes that message is personal.

Past memories, present hopes, future dreams?

The Lyrics:

“Stars”
Sixx:A.M

.

Do you wanna go to heaven tonight?
Leave the evidence far behind
Say alright, alright
Do you wanna be my lover tonight?
We can leave everybody else behind
Say alright, alright
.
Do you wanna see heaven tonight?
Underneath those lights you will look so beautiful
Do you wanna see the stars before they fall,
See the stars before they fall?
.
Do you wanna be my love tonight?
And for all my life it could be so wonderful
Do you wanna see the stars before they fall,
See the stars before they fall?
.
Maybe we should just run away
Never look back as the world decays
Say alright, alright
Nothing matters ever since the day
You pulled the pin in my heart like a hand grenade
Say alright, alright
.
Do you wanna see heaven tonight?
Underneath those lights you will look so beautiful
Do you wanna see the stars before they fall,
See the stars before they fall?
.
Do you wanna be my love tonight?
And for all my life it could be so wonderful
Do you wanna see the stars before they fall,
See the stars before they fall?
.
(Oh)
Fall out of the atmosphere
Lets run
Run until we disappear and
Never let them come and get you
Never let them take away our stars
.
Do you wanna see heaven tonight?
Underneath those lights you will look so beautiful
Do you wanna see the stars before they fall,
See the stars before they fall?
.
Do you wanna be my love tonight?
And for all my life it could be so wonderful
Do you wanna see the stars before they fall,
See the stars before they fall?
.
Before they fall (oh)
Do you wanna see the stars before they fall? (oh)
.

I am not certain when I came across Halestorm music, but I can tell you I am so glad I did.  Lzzy Hale, the lead singer and her brother, who kills it on drums, make up a few of the members of this Rock group.

Female Rock Chick?

Well, duh!

After seeing them FOUR times in concert, I still can’t get enough.    Who is on board with me the next time they come around Omaha?   Look me up. You know I’ll be there.

I LOVE everything about this song.   The world is gonna keep on turning no matter what we do or how we live, so we might as well live it.  Live YOU.  Be You.  Do you.

Take a listen.  Link above.

“AMEN”

Lyrics

A fire’s gotta burn
The world is gonna turn
A rain has gotta fall
Fate is gonna call
But I just keep on breathing
Long as my heart is beating
Someone’s gotta hate
It’s never gonna change
Gets harder everyday
This is one hell of a place
Keep your heart from freezing
To keep yourself believing
.
But I won’t run
I’m not afraid
I’ll look em in the eye
Gonna hear me say
It’s…
.
<Chorus>
.
My life
My love
My sex
My drug
My lust
My god it ain’t no sin
Can I get it
Can I get an Amen
My grace
My church
My pain
My tears
My hurt
My god, I’ll say it again
Can I get it
Can I get an Amen
.
Life has gotta kill
Faith is gonna blind
Hope is gonna fade
The truth is gonna lie
Sometimes there’s no reason
To justify the meaning
But I won’t run
I’m not ashamed
It’s gonna take more than this for me to break
 .
<Chorus>

Music Monday

music heart beat

Who doesn’t love music?   And who doesn’t like to be exposed to new artists/songs/genres?  Music is such a large part of my life as it is for many others in this world.  My particular taste in music has definitely evolved over the years, but so does music in general.

How boring of a world we’d live in if it weren’t for the multitude of genre’s out there to explore.

Did you know?

  • When I was in High School I drove to Omaha (180 miles round trip) every Sunday to participate in the Omaha Youth Orchestra?
  • In my early 20’s I traveled to Omaha (still 180 miles since I lived in Clarinda) every Monday evening and occasional weekends to participate in the Nebraska Wind Symphony?
  • Oh… there’s the part where I was a band and vocal teacher for 6 years as well.

That’s all part of my history (perhaps I’ll indulge in more of that later) but what I want to focus on today is a new band I am digging.  And quite possibly a new weekly feature.

So, let’s get to it, shall we?

Music Monday | Where I will feature an artist and a song I am currently crushing on.

We’ll see how long I can keep up on it.  It’ll be a new challenge for me.

Shaman’s Harvest

Song:  Dirty Diana

(remake of Michael Jackson’s original)

Listen-> YouTube

I stumbled upon their cover of Dirty Diana not that long ago.   Intrigued, I headed over to iTunes to take a quick listen to a few originals.   Verdict:  A band I could easily dig on.  A nice blend of Rock with Southern elements.   A band I’d definitely love to see in a small venue, such as Sokol (Come on Omaha… hint hint).

Hailing from Jefferson, Missouri; this band is made up of three core members Matt Fisher, Josh Hamler and Nathan Hunt.  From the band’s beginning in Fisher’s mom’s basement, these three have served as the foundation of Shaman’s Harvest since 1996.  Many ups, many downs, many hits, recordings and trips to the big cities, this band continues to churn out good tunes.

Music Monday – Eric Church… again.

Yep.   I went to see Eric Church again this weekend.  3 hours away.   Obsessed.

This time I went with Kayla and Tracy.  Kayla has missed seeing Mr. Church in concert several times due to unfortunate circumstances – however this time??   She was ALL in.

I am pretty sure she was as giddy as a kid on Christmas morning.

image

We had a KICK ASS surprise with Halestorm opening for Eric.   Lzzy Hale collaborates with him on a song, so having her band actually open was seriously icing on the cake.

They always put on a HALE of a show.   <— haha.  #lamehumor #butseriously

Dwight Yoakam was the second opener for E. Church.   I’ll admit – I respect what he has done musically over the years, but he just isn’t my thing.  Sorry, man.

And then…. it was time for CHURCH.

I can’t even begin to describe the kind of experience Eric puts his fans through.  He and his band members put on such an incredible show.  They constantly work the stage, engaging and interacting with members of the audience in every last corner of the auditorium.

And the appreciation, gratitude and sheer humbleness that Eric exudes is refreshing.

After a little more than a TWO and A HALF HOUR set, Mr. Church left the stage.   It looked to me like he wasn’t quite ready, but I think his guitar players fingers and drummers hands were done.

What an experience.

Thanks, Eric Church for yet another fun evening.

And excuse me mother for the crude humor of this closing eCard.  😉
