Graduation, Embarrassing Turned Sweet Sentiments, Saddlebags, Driveway Beers, Heartland Classic Fitness Prep and More!

What can I say?   A little break from the blogging world was in order.  I’ve got a few things planned for the upcoming weeks so as long as I can set aside a few minutes each day I’ll actually post some items of substance.

Let’s not hold our breath though, k?

For the FIRST weekend in a long time I didn’t have many plans.  Everything was set in pencil and low key.   For a girl who hasn’t seen a free weekend in months – I was overjoyed.

Friday after work I met up with Jessica at Brewsky’s for some happy hour beers.   Kristen was even able to swing by for a drink making it a mini-Vegas reunion!

image

5:30pm quickly turned to 9pm so we invited Clint to join us for some pizza before turning in for the night.   You guys… the pizza at Brewsky’s is amazing!  We added jalapenos to our “supreme”.   Oh yum.  Highly recommend.

Saturday

It was graduation weekend at IWCC and talk about overcrowded.   We were standing room only before the ceremony even began.  Record number of grads!  It was awesome to experience as always.

image

My feel good moment from Saturday:

After the ceremony I recognized a tall young man from back in my teaching days standing in the crowd.  I approached him to ask if he was a former Buffett Middle School kiddo and right when I touched his arm to get his attention he turned to me and said

“You are just so beautiful”

Wait, what?  Ha.

I processed that for a quick second and then asked if he was a former Buffett kid to which he said yes.

I followed up with:

“Well then, you might remember me as your music teacher”

Light-bulb moment happened in his eyes, said he thought I looked familiar and then again said,

“well, I thought you were beautiful then too”

LOL!  I remember this kid and his friend (who was an IWCC graduate) very well. Both SUCH great kids when they could have easily fallen in the rough crowd that surrounded them.  I sent him on his way (not before I found out he was a UNO student) and a little while later I saw him again with his friend, Bryce, who ALSO was my student.  Of course I took that moment to congratulate and shake Bryce’s hand on  his recent graduation.

If only I had my brain attached I would have gotten a photo with the two of them.

Bryce Armstrong and Brandon Carney = thanks for being great kids back in the day.  Your 8th grade class gave me a run for my money being a small town rural Iowa teacher transplanted to the city.  You were great kids then and it makes my heart happy to see you doing great things 7 years later.

Saturday Afternoon

The rest of the day we spent putting my freshly painted saddlebags together.  What a freaking test to our patience!

Champ of course napped, like normal.

image

Mid-day I received a text from Tina and Corey saying they were going to be in town and stopping by around 4pm.  PERFECT time for a beer break!

image

.

One driveway beer turned into many when more people stopped on over!  I love days like that.

image

.

We ended up heading out for dinner (which wasn’t the most pleasant experience I’ve ever had, but I’ll spare the waiter additional humiliation and take the high-road).  If you followed me on SnapChat you know what I am talking about (Find me at: harleyjordy).

Corey must think he has adorable dimples or something.

Sunday

Sunday we resumed work on the Harley saddlebag installation.  Again… a test of patience, but we made it!

Who knew that was going to be that long of a process?!  Yeesh.

The paint job is absolutely beautiful and Nick did SUCH an awesome job on it (Bonus: I have a neighbor who will be doing the pin-striping on it for me soon too).  Unfortunately, the whites don’t quite match up.  Not anyone’s fault, and definitely not Nick’s.  The bags are just SO much brighter white then the bike.  We are hoping it’s the amount of flake overlay.  We are taking it to Nick to get his professional opinion on it this week.  Again, not anyone’s fault.  That is what happens when you purchase aftermarket items and don’t go with Harley paint (which was like 2 times as much).  We will get it to match perfectly though, I have faith. 🙂

.

image

Doesn’t it look kick ass?  Totally transforms the look of the bike.

Now to get those pipes extended. 😉

Sunday afternoon I went for a quick 2 mile jog and 1 mile walk and somehow bruised the bottom of my foot.  Killer, man.

Then Sunday afternoon/evening I got to spend with Tyree.  She is competing in her first fitness completition this coming weekend!  She will be in the bikini class.

Heartland Classic

She came over at 4 so we could play around with her hair and makeup before heading out to her final posing session with her coach and several other gals who are competing.  I was surrounded by hella-fit women in ultra tiny bikinis.   LOL!

I am super impressed and PROUD of these girls.  It takes an incredible amount of devotion, dedication and focus to get the bodies they have.   Not to mention a complete lifestyle change that leaves out fun food and drinks and sometimes even leads to sacrificing social situations.

I was asked recently by someone how I don’t get insecure or jealous by attending these things and my response is “WHY ON EARTH WOULD I?”

First: They have different goals than I.

Second: They are on a completely different fitness and nutrition track.  As in, they are on one and I am not! ha

Third: I have a different body frame that I of course have some insecurities over (since I am up about 7 pounds now since last summer) but no way in hell would I ever compare!

Fourth:  When did not being proud of your OWN body and your CURRENT physique ever go out of style?  Blech.

Fifth: This isn’t about me, now is it?  It’s about those freaking rock stars on stage.

To all of you girls and guys competing this weekend, you are AMAZING!  I love your dedication. It is definitely something to be admired.

To the girls I have had the privilege of getting to see practice in these posing sessions these the last couple of weeks, I am so excited for you.   Your personalities shine.  You have never once shown a “too good” attitude and you have shown complete humility towards the others around you.

That is what makes you SHINE BRIGHT!

Meanwhile, I will drink all the vodka and beer and eat shit, like these ice cream cones we had this evening, for you.

I’ve got your back.

Monday

Cheers!

Weekend in Review 1 | April 2015

Well, this hasn’t been much of a weekend for excitement.  I started coming down with a cold Wednesday, as you all might remember from my stellar Thursday post (<– linked).  Friday it hit pretty hard, but I made it through my entire work day like a champ.  Surprised myself with my productiveness even.

Friday night was another story.   All I can remember is getting home at 3:30, running to the grocery store, making turkey kielbasa with sauerkraut for dinner and then having the great idea to post an old school photo in honor of National Sibling Day.

Hold your horses, folks.

image

Best Facebook comment of the night referred to us looking very Full House-ish.

Yep

8:30pm hit and I was digging through my medicine basket for some NyQuil that I for real jumped for joy after finding.   9pm in bed for some 20/20 and that’s where it went blank until 7am Saturday morning.

NyQuil.  You did the job.  You and I made a great team.

Saturday

I actually taught Insanity at 8:15am.   Complete with coughing, a growly man’s voice and tons of snot.  My class was just as thankful for that visual as you are now.

You should actually feel sorry for them.

coughing

Spelling/Grammar Check:  You’re sick…

Come on eCard making people. Get it together!

I made it through a full 50 minute class, surprisingly!  I had plans to just do 30, but something about the music, the excitement, the nervousness and the energy I get from teaching always gets me through.

I even managed to keep the momentum going after class!  I took a little drive out West to meet with my friend Jeff to check out his new gym (Active 180 for you West O folks)  and THEN had lunch with Claire at Jason’s Deli!

The rest of the day took zero effort as Champ and I watched the boys take apart an old Blazer to make into a convertible.

Champ loved it.  Hilarious.

Boys.

Still felt pretty good going into the early evening hours ( I sounded worse then I felt) so we met up with Tyree and Cole in Bennington, NE for some dinner at The Warehouse.   Cole recently bought a Harley so he had been out testing his new wheels and skills.  For a new rider he was doing AWESOME!

We failed at a photo opp with the four of us, but Clint and I got one in while at the 21st Saloon for a quick nightcap.

Sunday

Holy head cold, earache, headache and exhausted limbs.  Seriously, it’s like my cold went full force today, so I have managed to sit on the couch basically the entire. stinking. day.

What a waste.

Grocery store, couch, morning Food Network shows.

image

.

Couch, Couch, Lunch, Couch, Couch, Couch, Dinner, Couch, Couch….

image

.

Like I said.   Basically a waste.

I did get a little work done when I had an attention span (my attention span is pretty slim on a normal day… add in a day where I am feeling less then stellar and I can’t seem to focus on one thing for more than 20 minutes, max).

See…. I am already on a tangent.

Point. Proven.

Anyway, I am working on making some gym connections as I will officially be offering my first Certification soon.

Ya, you heard that right. 🙂

I can announce I am moving along a little faster in the Beachbody Ambassador program and am already working on getting my first Certification on the books.

Which means I can announce my certifications as being the official….

TRAINER!!!

So incredibly excited!

There is a hierarchy in the Master Trainer world much like any other organization.   I will keep learning, growing and climbing.

That also means a lot of work.  I’ve got quite a few assignments to get done this week along with securing my first host location.

On that note, some have been asking about my half marathon in May.  I had to let that go.  I am going to an Insanity certification that weekend in Des Moines as part of my learning process.   The weekend before I am going to a PiYo certification in Kansas.

A lot to learn.  A lot to do.  Had to say no.  (which is hard for me to do, as you all probably already know)

I’ll go into more detail soon, but until then, let’s all hope that tomorrow I feel decent enough to run my Turbo class and get some video of it. 🙂

With that, I leave you all for a nice warm shower and my bed.

Cheers!

The Weekend in Review 3 | March 2015

Well hello there, friends.   Another beautiful spring weekend here in Nebraska!

Let’s get to the recap, shall we?

Friday

Sweet, sweet Friday.  I had the day off (thanks to Spring Break) and I had all intentions of getting a bunch of housework completed.   Did it happen?  Nope!  Instead I spent what I considered a much deserved lazy morning of TV watching before I went out for a 7 miler.

That 7 miles?  Basically. Sucked.   My time was terrible!   I like to keep myself at around the 9:30 pace mark for distance runs.  It was a real life struggle keeping that up, but I didn’t stop and I kept pushing as much as my burning legs would allow.

image

So irritating, but whatever.  Better luck next distance run!

Following my run I pampered myself to my bi-weekly eyelash fill.  Yes, I get eyelash extensions and I absolutely love them.  Some girls get manicures, some pedicures…me, eyelashes.   I go to Jessica at Living Beautifully and you gals should too!  She does beautiful work and will cater to your requests (full, long, short, natural, dramatic, etc).

image

Friday evening Clint and I decided to lay low and not do a whole lot, so I took the downtime and ran to Target to finally buy myself some wireless Dr. Beats thanks to my Beachbody coaching paycheck (we get paid weekly as coaches…. this week I made a little more then expected = winning!)

image

Yep!  In LOVE with these little babies.  Now, to NOT lose them!  Yikes.

I guess I was feeling in the spendy mood because Friday night I also committed to a saddlebag purchase for my Harley.  I have never liked saddlebags.  They always took away from the look of the bike in my opinion.  However, after traveling to a few rallys in my first years of riding I realized how desperate I was for some storage.  It wasn’t until my third bike that I reluctantly agreed to put saddle bags on.

image

The bags that come with a Deluxe model are just super lame, are they not?  They look ridiculous.   Bad ass bike and then… the bags.     I can fit my leather coat in one.  That is IT.  Period.  Pretty useless if you ask me.

I’ve been wanting to get larger bags for a couple years, but they are just so darn pricey, especially with the hard bags that Clint was trying to convince me of.  I just wasn’t sold on the idea, nor did/do I have the cash laying around to purchase new bags.   Well, last month Clint googled a few photos of the Deluxe model with hard bags for me to look at and I was smitten.

Deluxe200972dpi

Of course, mine will look even cooler since I have dual exhaust with the fishtails.   mmmhmmm.   And, more room to store my crap you say?  YES, YES and YES!

…then came the price shopping.

Sorry, Harley Davidson, but this is where you took a long freaking hike.  I know that with Harley you are paying for the name…  and 99% of the time I will gladly pay it.   I like the history of Harley, the story of it’s origination and the overall meaningfulness HD is to ME and my upbringing.

But, when I was quoted $1800 for the bags, brackets and paint to match my bike, I laughed.

Ya… not happening.

So, we found some knock-off saddlebags online for less then 1/3 of that cost and Friday night, I sealed the deal.   Delivery date:  March 30th.

bags

The only problem?   The custom paint to match my two-toned baby.   That was Saturday’s plan to figure out…

Saturday

I made it a point to get up at 6:30 to hit the gym for my own weight training session prior to teaching Insanity at 8:15.   Goals, yo.  Goals.   Staying focused!

After the gym, I made a quick change in clothing (dry and layers) and hit the road on our bikes to run some errands.  It wasn’t 50 degrees yet, so while the cool air was refreshing after kicking the gyms ass, it was a wee bit of a shock to the ol’ system.   Whew!

We first hit up the D&R Auto Paint & Supply to check about accessibility to Harley’s paint colors.  Most Auto companies create their own paint colors and Harley keeps hold of their paint colors pretty tightly.   D&R told me they’d most likely be able to find the color, but we’d need the exact names of the paint they used for my model and year, so off to Holstein’s we went.   Stopping into that store is never a quick trip.  We know too many people!   Thanks to the service folks I found out the true name for my paint scheme

image

White Gold Pearl and Deep Cobalt Pearl.     Ahem… Gold and pearl.

I knew my expensive taste ran deep. 😉

Back to the paint store to get the paint (which is NOT cheap, by the way, but still far cheaper then Harley ever thought to be).  Clint has mad skills and is going to be able to paint the blue and white on my saddlebags, no problem.  What a handy feller.

Then we rode to lunch and then back home for Clint to do THIS:

image

.

image

Yep.  He tore out a portion of our backyard.  I guess he was serious when he said he was going to put in a 6ft wide sidealk/patio slab.  HA!

Well, ok then….

And soon after we found ourselves heading to Clarinda for a wedding reception.  I was shooting for a dressy yet biker look for the evening.   Pencil skirt, red lace top, leather jacket and heels.  I dug it.

image

.

First, we stopped at Troy and Sara’s for a little baby snuggle time and small talk.

image

Nothing cuter then a good looking man holding an absolutely adorable baby.   Little Ady is just a beauty. ❤

Next stop J. Bruner’s for a little shrimp, steak and salads before hitting up the wedding reception for a few beers and mingling.

image

And, before we knew it, we were headed right back to the city and in bed by midnight.

Sunday

Laundry.  I haven’t put away ANY laundry since we went to Colorado end of February.   Three large baskets overflowing with clean clothes and a spare bed covered.   I HATE laundry.   Clint continued to work on the yard, hauled away dirt, I did the Sunday duties and worked on some new fitness routines.

image

.

I even completed my FIRST assignment for my Master Trainer Ambassadorship!   I wanted to go ride today, but I have goals to achieve and things had to get done around the house since I am traveling three days this week.  😦

Plenty more days ahead to ride… plus, my soul still feels warm from my all day Saturday solo ride last weekend.  😉

Cheers to a GREAT week!

Weekend in Review 2 | March 2015

Oh, man.  This warm weather makes a girl HAPPY!

But also makes me want more weekend.

Let’s get started.

Friday

My hair was sending out an SOS, so early afternoon I took off for Clarinda to see Kayla.   I haven’t had a trim or color since January.   YIKES!  My hair was very very happy to see her.  After she was done working her magic, I popped on over to my mom’s to see her pup and hangout for an hour.

image

Lucy was playing bashful.

Mom was actually on her way to the grocery store when I stopped by, so we loaded up in the Jeep and made our way across the big city.

Ahem, big city complete with ONE stoplight, on the square, y’all.

image

.

image

I am posting this photo to show my hand on the steering wheel.  The one she took directly before this I was steering with my knee.  Which happens, a LOT.   Oopsie.   We deleted the evidence.  haha

A trip to the grocery store took well over 30 minutes.  I kept running into folks I knew so of course had to chat!  Was a lot of fun seeing folks I only normally see on Facebook.  ha

I dropped her back off at home and headed down to J. Bruner’s for some appetizers and cocktails with Kayla, Nicole and Tina (mom stopped by later, too).   I planned on two hours.   I should know better…. I didn’t leave town until after 10pm.   😉    I would have stuck around since Clint was also in Clarinda for the weekend, but I teach Insanity at 24 Hour Fitness on Saturday mornings and I would have been sad to miss my peeps.  So, late night travel back to the city, which is not uncommon with me.  It just is usually even later then that.

#roadwarrior

Saturday

Rise and Shine!   Insanity at 8:15am and then I had this BRILLIANT idea to get in a run afterwards.   Uh… Dude.  Just, no.   My legs promptly reminded me that I just got done killing them in the gym with Round 11.

image

1 mile.  9:17 pace.   I thought I was going to die.

Moving on….

Home for a morning marathon TV session of Ree Drummond’s Pioneer Woman.  I am obsessed.  It’s my Saturday/Sunday morning ritual.  She’s just so gosh darn cute.

Champ also has a ritual on weekend mornings… Sunbathing.

image

I had all intentions to get a giant to-do list done after lunch but the open road was calling me for some solo wind therapy.   Clint was gone for a guys weekend that he had been planning for a few weeks (which ended up not being a guys weekend due to others misunderstanding, but I still didn’t want to impose.  Sometimes you just need to chill with your buddies, ya?).

So, I leathered up and took my girl to Southwest Iowa.

image

.

image

.

Made my way through the Loess Hills, back roads, wherever my beauty decided to take me is where we went.

image

.

Early afternoon I found myself in Silver City, so I stopped into The Hood (great little bar in that quaint town) and had a Miller Lite while I made friends with another biker couple and the bartender.  We chatted a lot about Sturgis.  Super stoked about heading back there this year.  🙂  After about an hour, I bid farewell and decided Emerson would be the next stop to see Sara, Troy & kids.

image

.

I love that little town of Emerson.   Actually, I love most little SW Iowa towns.   Quiet, cozy, peaceful, relaxing.   It’s nice to get away from the crazy that is Omaha.  I love my neighborhood and the folks we live around and definitely appreciate living in the city, but, getting away is welcomed.   I can’t wait for the day when we finally get to move just outside the city limits back to the country.

After a few beers with Troy, good chats with Sara and gummy worm sharing with little Ms. Kaeleen, I headed back to the city just as the sun was going down.   My favorite time to ride.

image

Dusk means the world is just starting to slow down, the chill in the air starts to settle in and the traffic begins to calm.  Peace, serenity and a great time to be alone with your thoughts.   I love riding after nightfall as well, but knew that I needed to get home just prior to that otherwise chaps would have been necessary.  And, if you know me, you know I hate putting those things on.  🙂

Sunday

After some early morning cleaning, I met up with Blair to get in a 7 mile run.  She has her first half-marathon coming up, so I love that she has asked me to join her on a few of her distance weekends.  Super stoked for her to experience her first 13.1!

image

After our WINDY as hell run, I came home to find my hubster back.  So, a trip to Subway for a little lunch and catching up was in order.  The rest of the day included running errands, a Goodwill drop-off, grocery store and Champ shenanigans.

image

.

image

Showing us his best Stevie Wonder moves… or he’s just not impressed.

image

Mean-mugging

For dinner I decided to try out the cauliflower pizza crust that I’ve seen floating around the Pinterest/FB world for months.   Wasn’t too shabby.   A few tweaks and I think it will be even better!  Recipe to come soon.

image

And, THAT, wraps up my little weekend.   Far too quick, as always.   I strongly believe in four day work weeks in the spring and summer.   Wonder where I can find one of those gigs?

Cheers!
