Weekend in Review 2 | March 2015

Oh, man.  This warm weather makes a girl HAPPY!

But also makes me want more weekend.

Let’s get started.

Friday

My hair was sending out an SOS, so early afternoon I took off for Clarinda to see Kayla.   I haven’t had a trim or color since January.   YIKES!  My hair was very very happy to see her.  After she was done working her magic, I popped on over to my mom’s to see her pup and hangout for an hour.

image

Lucy was playing bashful.

Mom was actually on her way to the grocery store when I stopped by, so we loaded up in the Jeep and made our way across the big city.

Ahem, big city complete with ONE stoplight, on the square, y’all.

image

.

image

I am posting this photo to show my hand on the steering wheel.  The one she took directly before this I was steering with my knee.  Which happens, a LOT.   Oopsie.   We deleted the evidence.  haha

A trip to the grocery store took well over 30 minutes.  I kept running into folks I knew so of course had to chat!  Was a lot of fun seeing folks I only normally see on Facebook.  ha

I dropped her back off at home and headed down to J. Bruner’s for some appetizers and cocktails with Kayla, Nicole and Tina (mom stopped by later, too).   I planned on two hours.   I should know better…. I didn’t leave town until after 10pm.   😉    I would have stuck around since Clint was also in Clarinda for the weekend, but I teach Insanity at 24 Hour Fitness on Saturday mornings and I would have been sad to miss my peeps.  So, late night travel back to the city, which is not uncommon with me.  It just is usually even later then that.

#roadwarrior

Saturday

Rise and Shine!   Insanity at 8:15am and then I had this BRILLIANT idea to get in a run afterwards.   Uh… Dude.  Just, no.   My legs promptly reminded me that I just got done killing them in the gym with Round 11.

image

1 mile.  9:17 pace.   I thought I was going to die.

Moving on….

Home for a morning marathon TV session of Ree Drummond’s Pioneer Woman.  I am obsessed.  It’s my Saturday/Sunday morning ritual.  She’s just so gosh darn cute.

Champ also has a ritual on weekend mornings… Sunbathing.

image

I had all intentions to get a giant to-do list done after lunch but the open road was calling me for some solo wind therapy.   Clint was gone for a guys weekend that he had been planning for a few weeks (which ended up not being a guys weekend due to others misunderstanding, but I still didn’t want to impose.  Sometimes you just need to chill with your buddies, ya?).

So, I leathered up and took my girl to Southwest Iowa.

.

image

.

Made my way through the Loess Hills, back roads, wherever my beauty decided to take me is where we went.

image

.

Early afternoon I found myself in Silver City, so I stopped into The Hood (great little bar in that quaint town) and had a Miller Lite while I made friends with another biker couple and the bartender.  We chatted a lot about Sturgis.  Super stoked about heading back there this year.  🙂  After about an hour, I bid farewell and decided Emerson would be the next stop to see Sara, Troy & kids.

image

.

I love that little town of Emerson.   Actually, I love most little SW Iowa towns.   Quiet, cozy, peaceful, relaxing.   It’s nice to get away from the crazy that is Omaha.  I love my neighborhood and the folks we live around and definitely appreciate living in the city, but, getting away is welcomed.   I can’t wait for the day when we finally get to move just outside the city limits back to the country.

After a few beers with Troy, good chats with Sara and gummy worm sharing with little Ms. Kaeleen, I headed back to the city just as the sun was going down.   My favorite time to ride.

image

Dusk means the world is just starting to slow down, the chill in the air starts to settle in and the traffic begins to calm.  Peace, serenity and a great time to be alone with your thoughts.   I love riding after nightfall as well, but knew that I needed to get home just prior to that otherwise chaps would have been necessary.  And, if you know me, you know I hate putting those things on.  🙂

Sunday

After some early morning cleaning, I met up with Blair to get in a 7 mile run.  She has her first half-marathon coming up, so I love that she has asked me to join her on a few of her distance weekends.  Super stoked for her to experience her first 13.1!

image

After our WINDY as hell run, I came home to find my hubster back.  So, a trip to Subway for a little lunch and catching up was in order.  The rest of the day included running errands, a Goodwill drop-off, grocery store and Champ shenanigans.

Showing us his best Stevie Wonder moves… or he’s just not impressed.

Mean-mugging

For dinner I decided to try out the cauliflower pizza crust that I’ve seen floating around the Pinterest/FB world for months.   Wasn’t too shabby.   A few tweaks and I think it will be even better!  Recipe to come soon.

image

And, THAT, wraps up my little weekend.   Far too quick, as always.   I strongly believe in four day work weeks in the spring and summer.   Wonder where I can find one of those gigs?

Cheers!

9th Annual Biker B!tch Ride

July 19th, 2014 marked the 9th Annual Biker B!tch Ride.

BB Run Plattsmouth 42

 .

It was a day full of adventure, uncontrollable laughter, new friends, old friends, cocktails and plenty of open road.

Curious on the history of the Biker Bitches?  Find it here.

Our Day Started at Quaker Steak & Lube in Council Bluffs, IA where we convened for Bloody Mary’s, burgers, shirt exchanges and first-time greetings for a few of the gals.   We all were so excited for the day that lay ahead of us.

We hung out, chatted, soaked up the early sun and soon loaded up the bikes for our first leg of the trip.

The Steel Horse is tucked away in a typical small rural town.  A bar, post office and a few houses make up Newhawka.

Oh, and the flag pole placed in the middle of the only paved road that leads in and out of the community.

BB Run Newhawka 20

Newhawka had NO idea what to do with us.

We had a few drinks and the girls were adorable enough to toast yours truly for arranging the day.

Thanks, chicks.

I sure love you crazy b!tches.

Another spectacular day with crazy ladies who I love dearly.

And can I say, holy photos?  We took 229 that day.  Clearly, ain’t nobody have time to look at all those.  I spared you.  And I spared some of the girls. Let’s just say, some of those photos are best kept private.  🙂

I say I am pretty darn lucky to know some kick-ass chicks.

Cheers to 2015 and the 10th Annual Ride.

….Look out.  It’s gonna be crazy.

Harleys & Heels | Biker Bitch Feature #2 | Jen M.

~

I met Jen a few years ago at a bar outside of Glenwood, IA.  A small group of us were meeting up to go riding for the day and Jen just happened to also be at the same bar with one of her friends.  We chatted for a little while, but it wasn’t until the summer of 2014 that I was able to spend some time with her and truly get to know her.   She is bubbly, vivacious, has a gorgeous smile and a sweet as can be personality.  This chick knows what loyalty means and is a girlfriend that you can definitely always count on.

Without further ado ~ Ladies and Gents:

Meet:  Jen

jen m 7

1. How long have you been riding?

7 Years

Jen M 2

.

2. Why do you ride?

For my SANITY! I also love the beauty of the back roads, I meet amazing new forever friends, since I have no family here, the biker community has somewhat adopted me… pretty much riding my own Harley is one of the coolest things I’ve ever learned how to do.

jen m group

.

3. How many bikes have you owned and why did you choose your current model?

My first bike was a METRO Scooter! It wouldn’t even go 30mph so I upgraded to a Ruckus.  I was actually in the Omaha Scooter club! HAHA! I have had four other bikes since… V-Star, Vulcan and now I’m on my second V-rod (my current model, MUSCLE, is my fave by far!)  She’s sexy and mean!

jen m 10

4. Does your bike have a name?

Baby

5. Tell us the story behind why/when you decided to ride your own bike?

My ex-husband had a plan. He wanted a motorcycle so he started himself on a scooter, I felt left out so he bought me one.(here’s where his plan starts) The Scooter wouldn’t even get up to 30mph.. Giant FAIL! So, he bought himself a V-star.  I then purchased a faster scooter but felt like a nerd riding alongside his motorcycle.  So, 1 month later he upgraded to the Volcan and I took over the V-Star.   Of course my V star was a slow pig and I needed some speed..  I mean, the 950 was cool for a little bit, but it wasn’t a Harley.   The ol’ ex took me to Dillon Brothers Harley-Davidson one afternoon and said, “BABE you have to ride this V-Rod”.   I’m looking at it like… Nah.

He begged, I caved, got on and well…

clearly the rest is history.

6. Do you have a biker who is your inspiration?

I actually used to ride behind my dad a bit.. he’s a cool dude! He rides horses now.. but loves and swears he’s going to buy another Harley one day.. he LOVES that I ride, and thinks my bike is pretty bad ass! That’s cool!

7. What are some of you favorite things about the biker lifestyle?

I love how once someone see’s your a biker they pretty much accept you into their family.. It’s amazing how welcoming people are.. I’ve met some of my best and most loyal friends riding. It’s also just so much fun! I love hopping around to the little towns and having a beer and a laugh with some super cool people I would of never had a chance to meet. I just recently met a double recipient of the Purple Heart on my last bike trip! That was amazing!

jen m 11

8. Give us one of your favorite two-wheeled stories.

I have to say my weekend trip to Awesome Biker Nights this year was so cool! It didn’t start off the best as I was super hung over, got pulled over on my way to meet a group of people I didn’t know, was a half an hour hate and it was HOT HOT HOT!  I was not in the mood to hang with (Bling we call her) sparkly butt that day and by the second stop after meeting up with this new crew, Cowboy Hat Sassy Girl was giving me the evil eye and I was just ready to ride out on my own.  Then something happened.  My mood changed, the atmosphere lit up, the cameras came out, the music started playing and it’s all history from there.   20 bikes, 35 people and now some of my best friends, ever!  I haven’t laughed or smiled that big in a long time! They adopted me and gave me the road name McSassy!  HA!  I think it fits!

jen m 5

9. What advice would you give other females who are thinking about riding their own?

Don’t over think it, just get on and ride, it’s such a great experience and it gives you the independence and identity that you need in life. It’s fun to jump on the back sometimes but there is nothing like getting on your own, starting her up and knowing you can go wherever you want!

Jen M 9

Jen and I

.

10. There are many “Biker Codes” out there. If you had a favorite what would it be?

Respect! Always respect the road! It’s like the ocean, it’s powerful and can change in a second! Always keep your eyes open! Nobody can see you! NOBODY!

jen m 4

 Jen and Tracy

11. Final words?

Ride Fast, Live Hard and LOVE… Love the life that you’ve been granted because it doesn’t last forever!

Cheers!

Welcome to the FIRST of many Biker Bitch Features

I am beyond excited to introduce you to some of the most beautiful, confident, bad ass women I have the privilege of sharing the open road with.  I’m always intrigued to learn more about why fellow females choose to ride two-wheels..  Years ago you didn’t see women riding their own bike as often as you do now.   Why is that?  What shifted?  And what are the stories?   I love asking questions and learning more from the females that I meet out on the road.  I figure it’s high time I start sharing their stories with you as well.

So, without further ado – I introduce you to our very FIRST Female Feature.

Ladies and Gentlemen…

Meet Ashley H.

1. How long have you been riding?   11 years

2. What do you ride?   2002 Harley Davidson Sportster 1200

3. Does your bike have a name?   Bitch – because she’s cold blooded

.

4. How many bikes have you owned and why did you choose your current model?

I have had 2 bikes. I have my current bike because it was what my Dad had when he got back into riding and then the bike my mom learned to ride on and rode for a couple years and then they gave me the chance to buy it.  The Bitch actually joined our family the day of my Junior Prom so of course I had to sit on her and ended up getting my dress all dirty!

AshleyH4

5. Tell us the story behind why/when you decided to ride your own bike?  My family got me into riding. I used to ride behind my Dad and my Uncles and one day decided I wanted to try it out. Ended up with 5 guys chasing me down the driveway toward the ditch, but I didn’t let that scare me!

.

6. Do you have a biker who is your inspiration?  My Dad, he is an awesome person and has taught me so much over the years. He’s one of my favorite people to ride with and even though we don’t get to do it very often, it is definitely one of my favorite Daddy/Daughter activities.  Also, before I even learned to ride, my Dad and I built a Rail Buggy together that was street legal so I could get the idea of shifting before really trying to learn to ride. He’s a pretty amazing guy!

Can I have two? My Mom is also one of my inspirations, she has always been there for me and we actually took our riders test together and got our actual motorcycle licenses at the same time!  How cool is that?  I can’t express how much these two people mean to me!

AshleyH2

7. What are some of you favorite things about the biker lifestyle?   I love that the biker lifestyle is like a family! They base everything on respect and with most bikers, you know where you stand.

AshleyH7

Ashley and I – cheesin’

8. Give us one of your favorite two-wheeled stories. If I have to pick just one, I would say the wiener dog biker games.  There were a couple of guys that kept going through the game and decided that my sister and I should do it as well. She got on the back of my bike to be the wiener biter and we completely dumped it in front of everyone. I had a nice bruise on my back from her boot but as we were laying there laughing my buddy and brother-in-law were picking up my bike for us. I so wish someone would have gotten a picture of us laughing on the ground that day!

9. What advice would you give other females who are thinking about riding their own?   Do it! It’s so much better than being stuck on the back of the bike!
