Sturgis 2010 and 2012

2015 marks the 75th Annual Sturgis Rally and we are FINALLY on our way!   Due to me working in the education field, taking time off in August is very difficult (if not frowned upon).  Fortunately I can tailor my schedule a little easier than others, so here we go!

We are probably already on the road as you read this, if not darn close.  We are planning on making the entire 550+ miles in one day, which equates to about 10-11 hours on the bike depending on how long we stop for each fueling.

So, in honor of Sturgis present and past, I am going to take you on a quick little walk down our 2010 and 2012 Sturgis experiences.    Each one unique and special in its own way.

Sturgis 2010

The entire Sturgis experience was all it cracked up to be and more.

Especially when Clint pulled the ultimate surprise:

The poor lady he asked to take our photo had no idea what was going on.

Fortunately she got at least one photo! 🙂

What a fun and exciting moment.  And THAT RING!   Gorgeous diamond, custom made, bar and shield.   He masterminded the whole idea, went to a jeweler and had his vision put into real life.

He’s so good…

Sturgis 2010

Simply amazing

Sturgis 2012

Holy beer fest, friends and awesome memories.  We went with quite the crew this go-round.   We tend to take big vacations with a core group of friends and this was definitely a crazy crew!

Tuesday morning myself, Clint, Cyndi, John, Darin, Katy, Jade and Kayla all rolled out from our home in Omaha.  Destination: Valentine, NE | 300 miles.

Once in Valentine, we checked into our hotel, ate dinner and relaxed with a few parking lot beers.   Valentine was a perfect place to stop before Sturgis.   Last chance for an interruption free sleep, warm private shower and an actual toilet.   Honestly, that is probably the main reason we stopped instead of going the entire way in one day.   🙂

Wednesday.   Destination: Sturgis, SD | 232 miles.

20 miles outside of our destination:  Problem.

Thank goodness I know some really handy men!   We were up and running in no time!

And then…

Destination achieved.

It was time to party, sight see, people watch, drink beer and thoroughly enjoy our vacation.

Colorado Skiing | Years 1 and 2

For the last two years my in-laws have taken the family to Copper Mountain in Colorado for a few days of skiing and family time.   I’ll admit, the first year was met with a little bit of nervousness.   Having all of us together under one roof for several days created a little apprehension in all of us.   But, we were all wrong in those reservations.   What a blast!

The second year was met with much excitement.  And now this year I feel like I have had a countdown going for MONTHS!

Until now… by the time you read this, we will have been on the road since 6am.   And guess who isn’t with me?   My husband. 😦

Right now, I HATE the weather.  Mother Nature and I are not friends.  Not one little bit.   Clint’s business pushes snow in the winter.  So the TWO times all freaking year it decides to snow… it chooses the first on his 40th birthday weekend causing him to have to work – a lot!  And then this weekend.  When we are to be on a family vacation.  And now my vacation is spent with his family, without him.  I can’t even begin to describe how sad I am.  He’s my right hand man out there on the mountain.

Mother Nature – I hate you.  Today… I really hate you.

Trying to focus on the good trips we have had so far, so I thought I would share some photos of our 2013 and 2014 Colorado trips.  And while you are looking, send good vibes my way.  My super sad self needs them.   Send them to Clint too.  He’s just as bummed – if not more!

Kyle is a master of the mountain.   I don’t know where he got his skills from, but watch out.  He will fly by you with no hesitation at all.

But then, he also stops when he sees you wipe out to help you back up.

Viva Las Vegas 2015 | Girls Trip!

3 days, 3 nights, 7 girls, countless cocktails and 1 city simply known as

Vegas

Girls trip to Vegas… can you imagine?   Well, we did, we made it happen and now I am going to cram three days worth of photos into one post.

Friday, January 16th.

It was a bright and early start to the day for Kristen, Jess, Tina and I so of course Bloody Mary’s were of utmost importance.  Apparently all Kristen had to do was bat her eyelashes a bit to our fight attendant and the next thing I know we all had double Mary’s.   To say I was feeling mighty fine by the time we landed is an understatement.   And no, those weren’t all mine.

I don’t think.

  Cheers!

First stop:  Planet Hollywood to check-in, kiss Britney, unpack and get lunch while we waited for Cyndi’s flight to get in!

image

Britney’s show was on hiatus while we were out there.  That makes TWICE I have been in Vegas and haven’t seen her.   This is a real life tragedy for this guilty Britney lover.

Moving on… elevator mirror selfies for the WIN!

image

.

Cyndi’s arrival meant it was finally time for Vodka SLUSHIES!

image

.

image

Complete with red tongues!

image

.

We spent the afternoon walking and checking out the sights.  In Vegas, there is never a dull moment.

image

This mirror selfie is clearly well AFTER the vodka slushies.

image

A day of walking and cocktail sipping left us wiped by early evening.  Pathetic, huh? I blame the 9am bloody mary’s, the four shots of vodka in my slushy, the beers and whatever else went down the hatch.   Whew!   Carrie’s flight got in after 9pm so Cyndi and I rallied to walk around and have another cocktail with her.   Bonus: vodka induced shopping for the WIN.  I mean, check out this killer midnight purchase!  🙂

image

Want to know something super crappy about our first day in Vegas?  Tyree was also to fly in by Friday night, but her flight was CANCELLED without notification.   She was at the airport ready to rock n roll before she even found out.  No email, no phone call and no indication that it was going to be cancelled since she had checked in 24 hours prior.   Ridiculous don’t ya say?  Do NOT use Cheapoair.com.   They will screw you right on over.   Thankfully Southwest Airlines was able to book her a Saturday morning flight.

Saturday, January 17th.

The morning started with an early workout and then we took off walking while we waited for Tyree’s flight to make it in.  First stop, Bellagio.

image

.

image

Then on to Caesar’s Forum Shops where Jessica and I ordered the BEST Bloody Mary’s we have ever had.   $20 for this baby, but it was 100% worth it.     Highly recommend. 🙂

image

.

We watched the creepiest statue show I have ever seen before making the hike back to the hotel to meet up Tyree!

image

Jess, me and Tina!

The gang finally together!

image

.

Saturday was hands down one of our best days there.

I don’t think we laughed as much that weekend as we did that day.

.

image

.

We hung out at our hotel bar to watch the end of the Iowa game.

image

.

Gambled and drank.

image

Walked to numerous hotels.

image

Made Cyndi into a MapQuest pin.

image

These four insane girls rode the Roller Coaster at New York, New York.

image

.

I mean, LOOK at that beast.   Hell no.

image

Carrie and her thought process coming alive.   I had too much alcohol in mine.

image

MGM Grand allowed us some couch sitting while the cocktails continued to flow.   It’s vacation.  Don’t judge.   Ok, well… some of us drank far more than others.

Tina played it cool <— smart cookie.   Some of the rest of us… ahem….. 😉 ❤

image

After the MGM we made our way BACK to New York, New York for some Coyote Ugly action!

image

We were the first in line to get in!  Causing trouble everywhere we went…

image

Coyote Ugly was straight up awesome.  Shots, dancing, singing, game playing, photo taking craziness all around.  It was fantastic.

image

.

image

Soon we found ourselves making the long walk back to the hotel to call it a night.   I don’t have picture proof, but, trust me when I say, if you go to Vegas with Kristen and you find yourself needing some food, stat, she will just help herself to any passerby’s food.   Straight up hysterical.

Sunday, January 18th.

Breakfast and coffee (bloody mary’s for a few.,. names witheld for judgement… hahaha) followed by the long walk to the Venetian.   Worth the walk to see the Gondolas in the middle of the hotel.

image

Carlo’s Bakery even has their own shop there.   We didn’t care to stand in the 25 minute wait of a line, but I am sure it would have been absolutely worth it!

image

After some shopping we decided to head back to the hotel to drop off our goodies.  Tina apparantly wanted to get in an extra workout for the day by walking down the up moving escalator.  In flip flops of all shoes too.  Funniest moment of the morning, hands down.  If only she would have opened up her shopping bag for tips from the crowd that gathered to watch.

image

Next stop: Fremont Street for the afternoon.

image

.

image

.

Lunch, gambling, cocktails, shopping and more walking.   We didn’t get to see the canopy light display due to us being there during the day, but Fremont street is a must to experience, regardless.

image

.

After Fremont Street we headed back to the Strip to check off our last bucket list items.

Stop 1: Sprinkle’s Cupcakes.

image

.

They have a freaking Cupcake ATM machine.  Yes, yes, I DID get mine from the ATM machine.   We need one of these babies in Omaha.

image

.

Next stop: The High Roller

image

5 of us purchased tickets to the 30 minute giant Ferris wheel.  This thing was MASSIVE.  Normally I am terrified of heights, but this thing moved incredibly slow and seemed so secure that it didn’t really phase me.  Shocking.

Oh, but I did take a Dramamine tablet prior. 😉

image

.

image

.

image

.

After the Ferris Wheel, Jessica & Cyndi split off to attend the Bone Thugs N Harmony concert.  Ya…. That happened.   Tina and Kristen grabbed pizza and headed back to the hotel.  Carrie, Tyree and I went to an outside bar for a few cocktails, then headed to dinner and finished up with a little walking before calling the Vegas trip an official rap at midnight.

image

.

Vegas Girls Trip 2015 was a success.   I had so much fun with each of these girlies.   It was a laid back, casual vacay.   Tyree and I actually served as the only connecting points for everyone.   I knew all the girls really well.  Tyree knew all of them but Tina, who she met briefly a few months back.    Carrie knew everyone but 3.   Cyndi only really knew 2 of us…. etc.    It was really cool to see how everyone got along.

And honestly, it was like we had all been friends for years.

Until next time.

Chicago

A conference took me to Chicago for a few days last week.  A whole 48 hours, to be exact.  I’ve been traveling a lot for work lately – mostly local – but this trip was actually a nice change of pace.

image

You know what wasn’t cool?   Still feeling a wee bit “under-the-weather” when my flight took off.

That Vodka.   She’s a sneaky little bastard.

Like 90% of the human population on a flight, I fully intended to put my ear-buds in the moment I sat down. Thanks to Southwest allowing you to choose your own seat (which by the way is awkward when you are one of the last to board) I scoped out the least intimidating person to sit next to and picked a guy who looked to be my father’s age who didn’t avoid eye contact.

Gary, was his name, and we ended up chatting the entire hour and 20 minute flight to Chicago.  Gary was on his way back to New Orleans where he is currently working for the railroad.   He’s from Nebraska and had just flown home two days prior to surprise his wife on her birthday.  How cute!   We chatted about our dogs, love of Harley-Davidson, his three kids, his grand-kids, Jeep’s, Range Rover’s, farm life, living on an acreage, etc.    He showed me a photo of the acreage he and his wife currently live on, which is absolutely stunning.   They happened to stumble into it as it was originally a foreclosure, but two years and $90,000 later, they landed themselves a $400,000 home and acreage.   I told him I was incredibly jealous.   He followed up with the offer to sell it to me and I reminded him of the little fact that I know what he paid for it.    ha.

It was such a nice flight!   We shook hands, wished each other luck and vowed to keep an eye out for each other in Sturgis next year.  🙂

So, here it was 4pm on a Sunday afternoon in the city of Chicago.   And I was starving.   After a check-in at the hotel and a walk around down town, I ended up at Rockit Bar and Grill on Hubbard Street.

image

This place had an easy going vibe, cool interior and down right delicious food.   I ordered a pretzel appetizer that was out of this world and for my main course the buffalo calamari salad that was equally as delicious.    Two beers, a full belly and I found myself walking back to my hotel.   Halloween Party aftermath.  Just can’t hang.

Monday morning had me up and going for the start of the conference.  Yogurt, granola and a Diet Pepsi to start my day.  Figured this was far better then the donuts and rolls that typically accompany conference breakfasts.

image

After a morning of sessions and a working lunch, I took off mid-day for the short mile walk to Millennium Park.

image

To see the BEAN of course!

image

I even did the tourist thing and asked a stranger to take my photo.

image

Anyone else remember the movie “The Adventures in Babysitting”?    Then you’ll recognize this building!

image

LOVED that movie!

I headed back to the conference to close out the day with a few sessions before heading back to the hotel to freshen up before hitting the night scene.

image

Two of us took off on foot downtown to check out the scene (definitely can’t miss Trump Tower) before landing at a Burger Bar for some drinks, a burger (go figure) and crappy service.   We ended the night at Howl At The Moon Piano Bar with several other conference goers.   This place was a total blast – and on a Monday night even!   A Monday!

image

Tuesday morning started WAY too early with a breakfast that I should have been appreciate of, but wasn’t.   It was a Hyatt Hotel, snobby plated breakfast. I just wanted a Diet Pepsi and a banana.  Is that too much to ask for?

Several sessions and a lot of sitting later, I decided on some ME time and went for a walk down Magnificent Mile for some sun, exercise and shopping.   It was glorious.

image

I even stopped at Garrett’s Popcorn, thanks to about 10 peoples FB suggestions. 🙂

image

Too soon I found myself heading back to the airport for my returning flight home.

image

This time with my ear buds in.

Cheers!
