3 Day Weekend | Part 1

Holy mother of all summer weekends.  This was a good’n!   I had a freaking blast and am sad to see it go, but I can guarantee my wallet and liver are totally cool with it being Monday.

Country on the River in Council Bluffs, IA Thursday night was how I started the weekend off.

image

Tyree and I had tickets for all three days of the music festival, and regardless of the fact we weren’t die hard fans of Thursday nights headliners, we still had a great time and enjoyed singing along to the tunes we did know.

image

.

The beers were cold, the weather warm and the company was great!  We even ran into Regeana!

image

Can’t beat a good summer night like this!

image

.

We chose to park on the Nebraska side which allowed us to cross the Bob Kerry pedestrian bridge.   Had to pay respect to our states, ya know.

Go Hawks!

image

Perfect ending to Day One!

.

Friday

Up early, 2 mile run, errands, spa appointment at noon and then it was on to Day 2 shenanigans with Tyree.

image

.

Each year I try to do a partial dry run of the Biker B!tch ride to ensure the roads are good and the mileage is decent.  Tyree and I also do one day each summer where just the two of us go ride, so we combined the two and set out!

image.

Stop 1 Selfie!  Pacific Junction, IA, where the locals are bellied up to the bar by 1pm on a Friday, drinks are cheap and the bartender is the cutest gentleman you could meet.  Thanks, PJ, for a great start to our stellar day.

Next up: The Wild’s for some lunch!   This stop was the one I was most concerned about.  There is a smaller, winding (and fun) connecting road that runs adjacent to the interstate.   Sadly, a long section of it was turned to gravel last year.  SUPER LAME!    Keeping this location as a stop completely depended on whether or not the road was still gravel and lucky for us, the gravel is gone!  I wouldn’t say the ride is a super smooth one, but that could also just be my bike talking.  We lowered it last year so there is minimal suspension.   Unless you’ve ridden a rigid, you have no idea the toll it takes on your back.  Mine luckily isn’t that rough, but it isn’t a smooth ride like everyone else’s.

The things we do for vanity.  It doesn’t just stop with high heels for this girl.

😉

image

.

After The Wild’s, we adjusted our course since we needed to be back in CB for the evening concerts, so we made a quick stop into Tabor for fuel and then hit up Emerald Isle in Imogene, IA for little beer shots.  If you have never had one of these, you are missing OUT my friends.   So gosh darn delicious. 🙂

image

.

And what bar would be complete without children’s books and fun toys?

Ummm…. these were totally for big kids, right?

image

.

Next… Emerson, IA to see Sara, Troy and kiddos!

image

.

We pulled the bikes up to Sara’s dads shop, which is also the NEW home of SW Iowa Primitives, Antiques and Furniture.  <- Linked.  Check it out!

Emerson will always hold a special place in my heart.  ❤   It is where I started riding, really.   I have met some of the GREATEST people in Emerson.  From my BBB, Sara, to countless other people thanks to the many poker runs and camp-overs taken place in this quaint little town.  This shop in-particular held many  “shine nights” before poker runs, lots of beer drinking has been done inside those walls and memory after memory has been made.   It’s fun to see the shop transform into Sara and Troy’s newest business.  Couldn’t be more excited for her.

And of course, stopping in Emerson brings NEW love to my heart with Sara’s little cutie pie’s.

Farm girl, Kaeleen.

Taught by the one and only Farmer Tyree.

We stopped into Harley’s Bar and Grill for a quick drink before we had to bounce back to Council Bluffs.  It was time for some live music!

And then Mother Nature decided to make a random appearance.

Rain.   Cold Rain.

image

Can you see our handlebars peeking out over the top of the wall?  Weren’t they just so cute tucked away nice and safe while semi’s blew on by?

Sarcasm.

Really thought they might get pushed over at one point.  Slow it down, people!

:/

Camping out under the interstate overpass killed any possibility of us making it to see Casey Donahew Band, but to stay dry and somewhat warm was far more important.   No interest in remaining a wet soggy dog all night.

And, people.  Safety First.  Wear your helmets when not on bike.  It makes an adorable fashion statement, don’t ya say?

image

😀

The rain went through as quickly as it came in and we were back on our way.  Sun shining bright in Council Bluffs.  I guess they only got a sprinking.

Best part of rolling in late?  Getting to see this killer scooter gang.   Freaking hilarious!  There had to be at least 20 of them.  I all of a sudden now want a scooter to pimp out.  Anyone up for it?

image

.

FINALLY – we made it to the concert!

image

Poor Carrie was stuck for an hour by herself.   Cold beer kept her company though, so she was cool.

image

.

image

.

And, apparently my riding boots that I have had for at least 6 years are donezo.  I had some KILLER blisters by the end of the night.   No worries though.  Tyree pulled through with a pair of clean socks.

Don’t ask.

I can’t tell.

😉

image

.

Cheers to a fab Friday!!  Stay tuned for Part 2, including Saturday’s Bikers for Boobies run, a bum back tire experience and Sunday recovery!

Weekend in Review | June 19-21st

Have I mentioned how much I ❤  summer?   Weekends are always packed full of cool stuff and I love every second of it.

Friday

I had a half day at work thanks to a few appointments in the early afternoon.  Friday’s off at noon are always sweet!    Around 2 I got a call from Tyree asking if I wanted to go out to Dillon Harley-Davidson to test ride an Indian Motorcycle.  Apparently they were doing demo rides all day Friday, so why not?

image

I was able to ride a  Scout while Tyree rode the Dark Horse.   We set off in a group from Dillon’s and went for about a 25 minute ride.   My little nugget of a motorcycle definitely had some get up and go as did Tyree’s.  They were fun to ride, but I am 100% loyal to my Harley.  Plus, I am a firm believer that motorcycles should be loud and proud.  These babies purred like a  little kitten.

indian cycles

After we got done test riding the cycles, we decided to forego the original plan of Tyree going to the gym and me going jean shopping and instead opted for a road trip to Waterloo.   I had the Freedom Panels out of the Jeep and it was a gorgeous day, so why not?

A couple shots might have happened too…

image

.

Around 5:30 we headed back to the city to pick up our men and our Harley’s to make our way to Ashland, NE for none other than the Testicle Festival.

image

.

image

For those wondering about the taste, I can say there really wasn’t one.   The breading kind of masked any flavor, if you ask me.

Friday ended up being pretty darn great.   The weather was perfect, the drinks were cold, the company was fabulous and the ride was absolutely gorgeous.

image.

image

Clint, Me, Tyree and Cole.

We left Ashland around sunset and headed to Heron Bay for a night cap and conversation by the river.   Even though that bar could use some love and the owner is a little off her rocker, it is hands down one of my favorite places to hang when the sun starts setting.   Cool breeze off the river and background music makes for a relaxing time.

Saturday

I finally went for a run.   3 miles of humid, hot as hell, lungs burning, hip screaming, music blaring awesomeness.   FINALLY!

image

That was good for the soul!

Home for some breakfast and a selfie with the hubs…

image

Hello, last nights eye makeup.  Woah.

A shower, change of clothes and my new KICKS…

image

And then it was time.

Time to take the whole darn top off of my Jeep!

…for the FIRST TIME!!!!

image

8 bolts, two people, 10 minutes, DONE!

image

Seriously.

Clint and I ran a few errands, cruised the city of Omaha and had a friggin’ blast.  I am in serious Love.

image

If you follow either of us on Facebook, pay attention to my musings on here and/or know my husband… then you also know he’s a smart-ass.   His Facebook post and pic of the day:

And that my friends is my life.  Always laughing.   Always anticipating the next wisecrack outta that guys mouth.

Dang, I sure am a lucky gal.

😉

Clint spent the rest of the day doing work in and out of the garage while I went jean shopping.

image

We ended the night with a few cocktails and a movie at home.  It was superb.  My new fave?   Pink lemonade crystal light with coconut vodka.   Oh, hello summer yummyness.

Sunday

Father’s Day.

I don’t have much to say about the title of the day.   I can say I am blessed to have had and still have some pretty darn awesome father figures in my life.  My stepdad Dave, my father-in-laws Gary and Gaylen, my uncles, grandpas, my father…

I had planned to go to Clarinda to hang with a few of them, but people were busy, had other plans, were “unavailable”, etc.   So, with that, I sent Clint on his way to spend his afternoon with his dad, Kyle and other family members.

fathers day

Kennedy, J, Gary, Clint and Kyle

They spent the afternoon riding horses and ended the day with a BBQ.   I think they all had a great time!

fathers day 2

I, on the other hand, stayed back in Omaha to just be me.

I went for a run to clear my head followed up with a weight training sesh at the gym.

image

Thanks, Zorinsky

Took off for some Jeep cruising

image

My other wind therapy

And then went shopping for a few necessities, picked up a couple “wants” along the way, and ended my day with some Champ time, cooking, cleaning and TV.

The perfect end to a pretty perfect weekend.

Cheers!

Weekend in Review | June 12-14th

Oh, hey!  Happy Tuesday.   Still dreaming of last weekend over here!

Friday

Happy Hour at DJ’s Dugout in Aksarben Village with the J’s.  Jessica M, Jessica B, Joey D. and me, Jordan P!   It was JOYOUS!

djs

Saturday

Easton Poker Run!  Started off with Tyree, Jen, Regeana, Clint and I.   When we took off, Tyree took the lead, followed by Clint, me, Regeana and Jen.    Clint unknowingly bathed the three of us with oil shortly after our journey began, so he had to check out before our first stop.  No fear : minor fix and he met up with us later.  Just don’t ask Jen how her riding experience was with no windshield during that fiasco.  Oopsie!

Oh and for the record – I have yet to wash my bike.  It’s an engine oil deep conditioning experiment.   Work with me on it.

image

Heron Bay

image

Next stop – whatever bar that was.  The middle of nowhere.

image

HAPPY!

image

We ended the day in Waterloo, NE for a few drinks, dinner and to meet back up with Clint.   Tracy and Cole even made it out!  YAY!

And, since my husband is my husband, it wouldn’t be right not to have something ridiculous going on when in his presence.  As he was riding he saw something on the side of the road.  He thought it was one of those leather whip thingamajigs you see some bikers have hanging off their bike, so he turned around to pick it up.

Nope.  Not leather.   Hair.  A dreadlock.   SOMEONE’S freaking hair.

Oy.

image

So, naturally, the girls tied it into his beard.

image

Because why wouldn’t you?!

image

Honestly, only him.  He sure does keep the humor in our day to day lives.   It’s always a trip with him around.

After Waterloo we headed back to Omaha for a nightcap at Office West where Asa was able to meet up with us too.

image

A perfect ending to a perfect Saturday.

Sunday

A whole lotta movie watching, lounging, laundry, good food eating and not a whole lot else.

🙂

Cheers to a good week.  Tomorrow means we are halfway through ALREADY!

The Weekend in Review | June 5-7th

You know what was so great about this weekend?   Nothing and Everything.

Nothing:  We had nothing scheduled

Everything: The whole weekend was perfect.

What’s even better?  I didn’t spend my whole darn weekend on my phone, taking pictures, facebooking, instagramming and believe it or not my Snapchat followers…  I didn’t snap but maybe 1/4 of the weekend.

And, it was awesome.

Sometimes it’s ok to disconnect and not capture every moment on camera.    Of course, I am all about the photos for memories sake.  I ABSOLUTELY am.   I want those to fall back on someday.   Sometimes that someday is simply the next day, cuz girl… my memory needs some help.

But, this weekend, I put the phone down for the most part.  And it was fab.

Friday:   Off work at 3.   Retirement Party for our dear Carol.   Eyelash appointment at 6 with Jess.  Home by 7:30.

Saturday: Up at 7 to attend an Arborist Climbing competition.  My hubs is really modest when it comes to his line of work, but I won’t be.  It’s dangerous, it takes knowledge, it takes strength, it takes guts, it takes someone who prides themselves on hard ass work.  I never get to see him in action, and quite frankly, that is ok.   Some of the photos he sends from “his office” aka… the top of some tall ass trees, is enough to make me weak in the knees.  So, getting out to see some other climbers do their thing was fun!

 image

Let’s play a game.  Can you find the climber?  He’s up there.

Bonus if you can find two!

.

Funny part of the day:   A competitors truck got stuck.  Guess who they asked for assistance?  😉

image

.

We hung out for a few and then decided our bikes were calling our names.

Rain was coming through when we got home, so a quick garage cleaning of the not-so-white walls was in order while we waited for it all to pass.

image

Then it was off  to Butterfield’s for exhaust measurements and an estimate.   Breeze at Butterfields and Clint have become quite the pair.   If you ever need help with anything on your bike, I recommend going to see Breeze or Bob.   Two of the coolest old-school bikers you will ever meet.  And spending everyday for the rest of your life with them STILL wouldn’t be enough time to learn all of their knowledge.

image

.

Then we set out for Emerson, IA to check out the newly re-opened bar.  Harley’s Bar and Grill is where it’s AT if you go through Emerson.  And, I have to say you are missing out if you don’t give it a try.   Sara came down to have a soda with us and then shortly after, a crew of riders we have come to know in the last few months came rolling in.   So, naturally, we spent the rest of the afternoon riding with them!

harleyriding

.

Saturday turned out to be just GORGEOUS!

After Emerson we hit up Imogene, Malvern and another little bar called the Wild’s just south of Pacific Junction .  Good peeps, cold drinks, warm sun, lots of wind.   Easy breezy perfect little Saturday!

Clint and I ended the day back in Omaha for some dinner before calling it a night.

image

Dinker’s claims to have the BEST burger in Omaha.  I’d have to agree.   Holy YUM!

Sunday:  A morning run that left me gasping for air, baths for the babies, loud music that the Jehovies surely enjoyed with us, snuggle time with Champ, grocery shopping, laundry, meal prep, lawn mowing, tv watching, easy day with my hubs.

.

Cheers to a fabulous weekend!
