9th Annual Biker B!tch Ride

July 19th, 2014 marked the 9th Annual Biker B!tch Ride.

BB Run Plattsmouth 42

 .

It was a day full of adventure, uncontrollable laughter, new friends, old friends, cocktails and plenty of open road.

Curious on the history of the Biker Bitches?  Find it here.

Our Day Started at Quaker Steak & Lube in Council Bluffs, IA where we convened for Bloody Mary’s, burgers, shirt exchanges and first-time greetings for a few of the gals.   We all were so excited for the day that lay ahead of us.

We hung out, chatted, soaked up the early sun and soon loaded up the bikes for our first leg of the trip.

The Steel Horse is tucked away in a typical small rural town.  A bar, post office and a few houses make up Newhawka.

Oh, and the flag pole placed in the middle of the only paved road that leads in and out of the community.

BB Run Newhawka 20

Newhawka had NO idea what to do with us.

We had a few drinks and the girls were adorable enough to toast yours truly for arranging the day.

Thanks, chicks.

Pretty sure we made some ruckus on our way out of this town. 😉  It’s to be expected as the day moves on.

Just making our presence known is all.

The owner was in rare form that day, so getting drinks took time and patience.   It’s ok, though.

We know how to entertain ourselves.

I love Heron Bay for the outdoor seating along the river.   It’s relaxing and peaceful.

…until we take over.

The peace went out the window with this rowdy crew.

Another B Run in the books.

Another spectacular day with crazy ladies who I love dearly.

And can I say, holy photos?  We took 229 that day.  Clearly, ain’t nobody have time to look at all those.  I spared you.  And I spared some of the girls. Let’s just say, some of those photos are best kept private.  🙂

I say I am pretty darn lucky to know some kick-ass chicks.

Cheers to 2015 and the 10th Annual Ride.

….Look out.  It’s gonna be crazy.

Meet: Chris

Chris Y 6

1. How long have you been riding?

45 years

2. What do you ride?

2003 Harley-Davidson Dyna Low Rider

Chris Y 4

3. How many bikes have you owned and why did you choose your current model?

3 bikes

4. Does your bike have a name?

No .. I think that’s silly.

5. Tell us the story behind why/when you decided to ride your own bike?

I was never a girlie girl like my older sister.  Riding dirt bikes was far more appealing and began riding with my dad and brothers at a very young age.   I always rode dirt had a 50, 70 and 125 Honda, then added on Yamaha, Bultacos and Benellis.  I also rode a Yamaha 500 TT.  That thing had a compression release that if you didn’t get the head in the right position to kick start it would throw you clean off.   At the age of 16 I was legal to take the bike out on the streets, however, the first love always took me back to the dirt.

Fast forward several years after teaching and riding dirt with my son.   It would take me too long to recover from riding and he was getting to be the age where being with your mom was not cool.  So, I decided to get me a street bike and landed with a Harley. They said that once you sit on a certain bike you will feel it.  So, off I went to kick some tires with one of my brothers at Dillon Harley-Davidson.  I must have sat on almost every bike there. I felt the “aha” moment when I sat on my 2003 Dyna Low Rider.  I said in an instant “I’ll take this one”.  Lately I have been looking at Street Glides. Maybe next year?

6. Do you have a biker who is your inspiration?

My Dad and older brothers

7. What are some of you favorite things about the biker lifestyle?

  • Biker always have your back.
  • The looks.   What?  A girl riding her own bike?
  • Freedom and empowerment

chris y 10

8. Give us one of your favorite two-wheeled stories.

1) I remember being the only girl in Council Bluffs, IA that rode her own bike and the guys would always want to ride. Of course, I always responded with “If you let me ride yours”.   Their response?

“I don’t have one”

2) I have fond memories of riding dirt bikes down by the river with my dad and brothers when I was a kid.   I remember trying for the first time to cross a 2X4 board that was across the stream, and I didn’t make it. Needless to say, I got the bike out but was muddy from head to toe. All you could see were the whites of my teeth and eyes.

I have many other stories, but those stand out the most to me.

Chris Y 5

Chris and her son when he first started riding at age 7.  He is now 20.

.

9. What advice would you give other females who are thinking about riding their own?

I say go for it. Do NOT wait for a man to take you riding. But don’t start riding for the wrong reasons.  Believe me when I say that you can tell if a person (man or woman) is comfortable on a bike by the way they ride.  Don’t let anyone stop you if its what you want. But don’t get cocky once you start riding.  You may ride well, but don’t get over confident.

Remember: it’s not IF you go down, its WHEN.

.

Chris Y 1

10.  Final Words?

Ride and ride like you stole it. Don’t wait. Just do it. Before you know it you’re old and standing there saying “I should have or could have”.

Not this chick.  I did it.

I love to see women riding.  When I first starting riding as a kid, there were none.   Now there are many.  I call them my wind sistas.

 Cheers!

A Few Words From Jordan:

I have to take a moment to echo Chris’ words.  The biggest piece of wisdom given to me when I first started riding a Harley years ago:

There are two types of bikers:

Those that have been down and those that are going down.

Oatmeal Toffee Bars w/ Roasted Marshmallow Topping

Oatmeal Toffee Bars

Brace yourselves.  These things are heavenly.

These are made up of an oatmeal cookie base, toffee bits, melted chocolate AND marshmallows.

Pretty much, awesome.

Step 1:  Mix together sugars, butter, shortening.  Mix well.

Oatmeal Toffee Bars

Step 2: Mix in eggs, molasses and vanilla.  Mix well.

Step 3:  Add dry ingredients except for Oatmeal. Once thoroughly mixed, fold in oatmeal and 1/2 bag of Heath bits.

Toffee Oatmeal Bars

Step 4: Spread mixture in greased 9×13 pan.   Place in oven for 20-25 minutes.  Be careful so as not to overcook.

Oatmeal Toffee Bars

Step 5: Remove from oven and spread remaining Toffee Bits, Chocolate Chips and Marshmallows on top.

Oatmeal Toffee Bars

Step 6: Place back in oven for 4 minutes.   During the last minute, set oven to Roast, open oven door and watch marshmallows turn golden brown.  Remove from oven and cool.

Yum!

Midtown Crossing- Ladies Night Recap!

This last Wednesday I participated in Ladies Night at Glo Lounge, Midtown Crossing, located right here in Omaha, NE.

I had a lot of fun getting acquainted with a few other Omaha Bloggers and playing dress up with clothes loaned from Me & Me Boutique!

Me and Me

Lisa, the owner of Me & Me is an absolute gem!  She is incredibly spunky and has a unique eye for fashion.  I highly recommend swinging in and checking out her store.  Rumor has it she has some KILLER get-ups and purses for sale. 🙂

To start the evening, Ashley of If You Give A Girl A Ring and I met up at Me & Me to be outfitted with two different looks.   Look one for me consisted of black skinny jeans, an olive green top, scarf that Lisa suggested I wear as a shawl and a cute purse to throw over the shoulder.  This was a unique pairing of colors and not something I would have put together on my own.  I appreciate Lisa’s vision.

The shoes… totally mine.  And I am in love. 🙂

After we put on our first outfits, we walked half a block to Glo Lounge to mingle, drink a pomegranate martini (YUM!) and work the room.

The Omaha Bloggers!

Ashley is to my left.  Is her outfit just not adorable?  That hat!  Yes!   You can find all the pieces to her look from Me & Me, including those killer shoes that you unfortunately can’t see in this pic.

Jessica of Finding Joy is located on the left and is wearing an outfit put together from The Ugly Sister.  Jessica is also the owner of Confetti Creations and makes the yummiest cakes and most ADORABLE bow ties for little boys.

Danielle (far right) of Martinis and Minivans is also wearing The Ugly Sister.   Danielle’s blog is absolutely hysterical.  Love her contagious personality and outlook on life.

 On to Look #2:

image

I am loving the new jumper look for the summer.    So comfortable and cute.  I would love this in solid black!  I’m all over that!

image

And Ashley’s yellow dress is gorgeous!  Is she just not the cutest?  I think she needs to add this to her closet collection!

image

My girls Tyree and Carrie came out to support.  Of course they’d throw in a selfie pic that I later found on my camera.  Funny gals… 🙂

It was a fun evening at Glo Lounge and I am loving the vibe in Midtown Crossing.  I can’t wait for the outdoor concerts that will be starting up fairly soon!

COME ON SUMMER!
