Fastest Pace Yet

My lower back is all sortsa out-of-whack.  I have to see my Chiro two times a month.   I missed my regular appointment two weeks ago.   Bad news.   Very Very Bad News.  Now I am behind and paying for it.  And speaking of paying for it, WHY do Chiro’s have to be so damn expensive?!   I calculated what they make an hour based off my monthly rate and the 5 minutes they spend with me.  All I can say is, they aren’t hurting for money.  =/

Anyway, back to my point.

Sitting down sucks.  Hello compressed spine.

Bending over sucks.  Squat baby, squat.

Laying down sucks.  Sleeping on an ice pack helps, but rolling over?   That’s a whole other story.

Standing feels ok.  But only after about 2 minutes of being hunched over and slowly but surely straightening out.

Running.  Ya, I can hear your scolding comments now.  But, I went running.  I told you, standing feels just fine once I am up!

And ya know what is even more weird?   I had one of my best averages.   What the What?

I averaged an 8:52 mile pace for 4.5 miles.

My normal happy place is 9:30.

This makes no sense to me.  None.

I guess the fresh fall air in my lungs combined with the warm sun and open trail just made my body happy.

Did I do more harm to my back?  I don’t think so.  Felt fine the rest of the day as long as I was up and moving.   The second I sat down though, forget about it.   Pain.  Just sharp throbbing pain.  Nothing new.

Back to chiro tomorrow.  I’ve got a full class load to teach this week.  Ain’t NOBODY got time for a broken back.

Until then I’ll stick to this suggestion – but I’ll take Vodka, thanks.

Cheers.

The Start of An Easy Weekend

It’s Saturday.   11:45am.  And I am still at HOME.

I can’t remember the last time I was home on a Saturday.   I am pretty much elated that washing my hair and putting on makeup today is straight up OPTIONAL.

An easy, uneventful weekend wasn’t our original plan, but we will gladly take this turn of events!

Our Friday night consisted of a few beers in the driveway, BS-ing with a good buddie of ours while Clint worked on pulling the motor out of his old Ford.

The man is always tinkering.   Always tearing down and rebuilding something!   This new project is either a complete engine rebuild OR something about going to an auction to buy some new front end off of some old car and rebuilding the front end entirely?  Ya, I don’t know.  I listen, nod, take the photos, drink the beer, take selfies while he works and enjoy his end product.   We shall see.

I curled my hair slightly Friday morning.  I wasn’t quite sure if it was sassy cute or little girl cute.   Little girl cute is not cute on a 34 year old…  =/

Friday night dinner consisted of healthy roasted chicken, peas and fruit.

Dessert was a warm gooey batch of black bean brownies.

Ever had black bean brownies?

They are so good.  I promise.

Clint, of course, drowned his in ice cream. Kind of defeats the purpose, ya think?

The below recipe is from Chocolate Covered Katie.  I used the coconut oil, real maple syrup and stevia options.

Friday night ended with a backyard fire pit and a glass of wine.  Pretty sure I was out COLD in my bed by 10pm.

And I’m totally cool with that.

Now for Saturday?  What’s a girl to do?   Catch up on some blog posts, plan out Week 3 of my online Accountability group, go for a run, maybe hit the weights at the gym (maybe not … nursing a very sore lower back and hip flexors.  Chiropractor visit yesterday will hopefully kick in soon!)

All I DO know is that this is for dinner tonight:

Cheers to a killer weekend, y’all!

1 Year Blogiversary Winner!

Time to announce the Winner!

Happy Blogiversary

But first, I must say thanks to all who took the time to write and enter to win!   I loved reading your comments!

To pick the winner, I typed up each entry (some of you had several entries), put them in a hat and asked Clint to help draw the winner!

Drum Roll, Please…………

And the Winner is Stephi!

I was SO excited when Clint drew her name!

How I “know” Stephi is a fun little story.  Allow me to tell it….

So, there exists this cool little land called Instagram.  When you use #hashtags correctly, you end up finding some like-minded folks.   Enter: Stephi.  When you use the same hashtags frequently you start recognizing the same IG user pop up.   Stephi and I kept running into each other in the #harley world and so began following each other.   We would occasionally have conversations regarding our love of Harley’s and quickly found out we had even more in common than #harleydavidson.   She’s originally a Nebraska girl, transplanted to Milwaukee (my dream city to live in- Home of Harley-Davidson- hello!).   She is a kick-ass Harley girl, nurse, has a killer IG account full of photos that parallel mine AND she rides a Harley-Davidson Deluxe.  <—- The same as MINE!

It was meant to be!  🙂

My one HUGE regret is we didn’t actually meet last year during the 110th Anniversary of Harley Davidson.  I was in the same freaking city as her.

Next time, girl.  Next time!   Sturgis 2015?!

So, Stephi – ENJOY your gift card.   Make sure to email me your snail-mail address at harleysandheels@yahoo.com!

Meet: Pam

Pam 3

1. How long have you been riding?

A total of 8 years.  I started riding when I was 16, but only for a couple years. I started riding again 6 years ago.

Pam 13

2. What do you ride?

Yamaha V-Star Silverado 1100

pam 1

3. How many bikes have you owned and why did you choose your current model?

I’ve owned two bikes.  The first bike I learned to ride was my Mom’s.

I chose my current bike because it fits me well.

Pam 6

4. Tell us the story behind why/when you decided to ride your own bike?

After raising my kids it was time to get back to riding. When I want to go for a ride I don’t have to wait or rely on anyone.

Pam 9

6. Do you have a biker who is your inspiration?

My dad is my inspiration.

Pam 8

He always gave me encouragement to try new things. When he knew I was going for a ride he would say;Watch out for the cars because they aren’t watching for you.

My dad was on the Omaha Fire Department for 33 years and has seen a lot of Motorcycle accidents. He knew first hand. When I went to College for the first time last year he was so proud of me. You see, I’ve been out of school for 37 years. It was hard to go back.  I graduated in May of 2014 with my Book Keeping Certificate.

I’m so glad he was still here to see it.

Dad passed in July and I know he is watching over me now.

Pam 2

7. What are some of you favorite things about the biker lifestyle?

I love making new friends and meeting new people.

Pam 7

I love that if a biker sees another bike broke down on the road they stop to see if they need help.

I ride because I love freedom, independence, and the movement of the ground beneath me.

8. Give us one of your favorite two-wheeled stories.

All of my 2 wheel stories are special. Can’t just choose one.

Pam 4

9. What advice would you give other females who are thinking about riding their own?

Take a riders course. Don’t get a bike that is too big for you to handle.

Pam 12

10. There are many “Biker Codes” out there. If you had a favorite what would it be?

I will not show disrespect to other bikers less experienced or knowledgeable than I am.

It’s all about Respect.

Pam 10

11. Final words?

Live for today like there’s no tomorrow.

Do what you enjoy doing and don’t let anyone tell you you can’t.

Pam 5

Cheers!
