1. How long have you been riding?

I grew up on a farm and can remember riding little dirt bikes around the age of 10, maybe even a little younger.  As for a street bike, I have owned my Harley for 4 years now.

.

.
2. What do you ride?

2008 Harley Dyna Street Bob.

image

.
3. How many bikes have you owned and why did you choose your current model?

One, because it looked good on me.

image

.
4. Does your bike have a name?

No, but she is my baby girl!

image

.
5. Tell us the story behind why/when you decided to ride your own bike?

I met Jordan the summer of 2007 and thought she was a pretty amazing lady.  I admired her for riding her own.

Fast forward a few years when my brother came to live with me.  He was daring enough to let me ride his Honda Shadow and it was then I realized how much I still loved “going outside to play” and knew I had to get my own!

.
6. Do you have a biker who is your inspiration?

My Dad.

I remember being a kid and he would have my sister sitting on the tank sitting “criss-cross applesauce” and me on the back with my feet thrown up over his legs so I wouldn’t get burned by the pipes. Dad would do some of the craziest dirt bike stunts and I thought he was so cool!  He really taught me how to ride.

7. What are some of you favorite things about the biker lifestyle?

The friends and people you meet. It is like no other!! A respect and love for something that is so rejuvenating, thrilling and that gives a since of strength, power, and freedom.

It is something that someone who doesn’t ride, can’t understand.

.

8. Give us one of your favorite two-wheeled stories.

How can I pick just one?

Every “B!tch” ride has been amazing and the long trips to bike rallies are some of the best trips I’ve ever been on.  Even just jumping on a back winding road with one of your biker friends is a memorable event just the same.

.

9. What advice would you give other females who are thinking about riding their own?

Do it!!!! If you have ever thought about it, it is so worth it.

image

.

10.  There are many “Biker Codes” out there.  If you had a favorite what would it be?

Bikers have a brotherhood and sisterhood like no other.

Unlike so many groups, bikers truly are a family, and bikers live by a code of respect.

image

.

11. Final words?

Life is short, break the rules, forgive quickly, love honestly, laugh easy, keep it simple, ride often, ride free and never regret anything that makes you smile!

And, my dad always said “I work hard, and I play just as hard as I work“.

Thanks, Dad.

That’s the way I am choosing to live my life as well.

Cheers!

Meet: Lora J.

Lora J
1. How long have you been riding?

I grew up on mini bikes, but I was always just a little scared of riding back then.  When I was 18, my husband would let me give him rides on his dirt bike.  On Mother’s Day, seven years ago, I got my first bike and have been riding my own ever since.

Lora 8

2. What do you currently ride?

Harley Davidson Heritage Softail

Lora

.
3. How many bikes have you owned and why did you choose your current model?

I have owned two bikes.  My first one was an 1100 V Star.   I have since purchased my Heritage Softail, which I got for a screaming great deal.   I kept my V Star for my 16 year old son who has now been riding a few years.

Lora 6

4. Does your bike have a name?

I haven’t gotten around to my new bike.  Any ideas?

5. Tell us the story behind why/when you decided to ride your own bike.

I love riding my own bike and I feel more safe when I am in charge.   I actually had my first street bike before my husband got his.  I have always felt free riding my own bike. Riding is like Prozac.  It relieves a lot a stress.

Riding is something I had wanted to do for a long time, but I waited until my kids were old enough to watch themselves.  Kids first, riding second.

.
6. Do you have a biker who is your inspiration?

All women riders are my inspiration.  I have found that women tend to ride safer then men, and women always form a bond, no matter the age difference.

BB Run Waterloo 15

.
7. What are some of you favorite things about the biker lifestyle?

The freedom.

Meeting new people.

Motorcycles are always a great ice breaker.   There is always a story.

8. Give us one of your favorite two-wheeled stories.

My favorite two wheeled story was my first women’s trip with about 20 ladies.  The oldest was 66 and the youngest 32. We rode to Wisconsin, got rained on and ended up drying our clothes out at a Casey’s along the way.   We rolled into the Dells in matching shirts and people everywhere wanted to take our pictures with them.   It was my first time to go on a trip on my bike with only women.

Our trip was full of adventure.  We had a couple ladies wreck, we lost stuff along the highway, people left their blinkers on (apparently this makes a few ladies really bitchy).  For the record, it wasn’t my blinker, but it was a lesson!  I now always make sure my blinkers are off and I learned how to ride in formation.

All in all, it was a wonderful experience.

Lora 7

9. What advice would you give other females who are thinking about riding their own?

My advice would be:

  1. If you lay your bike down get back on.
  2. Don’t buy a brand new bike to begin with get a nice used one.
  3. Ride alone on less populated back roads so you can get in uninterrupted practice.
  4. Never let your bike get dusty.

10.  There are many “Biker Codes” out there. If you had a favorite what would it be? Or, if you were to add your own code, what would you say?

Always ride like a lady.  Keep it classy, girls.

.

11. Final words?

Ride every chance you can, you never know when it might be your last.

9th Annual Biker B!tch Ride

July 19th, 2014 marked the 9th Annual Biker B!tch Ride.

BB Run Plattsmouth 42

 .

It was a day full of adventure, uncontrollable laughter, new friends, old friends, cocktails and plenty of open road.

Curious on the history of the Biker Bitches?  Find it here.

Our Day Started at Quaker Steak & Lube in Council Bluffs, IA where we convened for Bloody Mary’s, burgers, shirt exchanges and first-time greetings for a few of the gals.   We all were so excited for the day that lay ahead of us.

BB Run Quaker 8

We hung out, chatted, soaked up the early sun and soon loaded up the bikes for our first leg of the trip.

The Steel Horse is tucked away in a typical small rural town.  A bar, post office and a few houses make up Newhawka.

Oh, and the flag pole placed in the middle of the only paved road that leads in and out of the community.

BB Run Newhawka 20

Newhawka had NO idea what to do with us.

We had a few drinks and the girls were adorable enough to toast yours truly for arranging the day.

Thanks, chicks.

Pretty sure we made some ruckus on our way out of this town. 😉  It’s to be expected as the day moves on.

Just making our presence known is all.

The owner was in rare form that day, so getting drinks took time and patience.   It’s ok, though.

We know how to entertain ourselves.

I love Heron Bay for the outdoor seating along the river.   It’s relaxing and peaceful.

…until we take over.

The peace went out the window with this rowdy crew.

Another B Run in the books.

Another spectacular day with crazy ladies who I love dearly.

And can I say, holy photos?  We took 229 that day.  Clearly, ain’t nobody have time to look at all those.  I spared you.  And I spared some of the girls. Let’s just say, some of those photos are best kept private.  🙂

I say I am pretty darn lucky to know some kick-ass chicks.

Cheers to 2015 and the 10th Annual Ride.

….Look out.  It’s gonna be crazy.

The Weekend in Review – 8.24.14

Another weekend has come and gone and I’d say this one was done up right, yet again!

Man – I am getting GOOD at this weekend living stuff.  I should figure out how to make everyday a weekend day.

Are ya in, or are ya in?

Friday Night:  Out with my man for an evening BBQ at our friend Andy and Heather’s to celebrate their 1 year anniversary.

Date Night

Gosh I love this guy. Scowl and all – can’t be too smiley ya know – messes w/ that rough biker exterior.

.

Andy and Heather had quite a house full of people helping celebrate their 1 year.  Such a cute couple and fun friends they have.  Glad we could partake in the festivities with them.

Entertainment was offered up by Andy and his best buddy Mike.

Koozie boxing.  It’s the new thing, y’all.

Saturday:   I subbed for an 8am class at the YMCA.   Had a blast!   We did Insanity and for some reason it felt 10 times harder on a Saturday morning than it does during the weekday mornings.  Makes no sense – but we will take it.  It was a KILLER workout!

Then it was time to play.  Tyree and I hadn’t gone for a Harley ride just the two of us since before her surgery in May, so we were LONG overdue for a girls day out.  We managed to hit up multiple small town bars including:

image

Malibu and Pineapple for Jordan – Blue UV and lemonade for Tyree

.

The Hood

Super cool bar with car hoods and old album covers decorating the interior.

.

Apparently old habits die hard and as two former school teachers know – the only way to get something is to raise your hand.

Hey, bartender…

Good friends, good conversation, good ending to a Saturday night.

Sunday: Lazy day and dinner with the in-laws for my birthday.  We met up at The Cracker Barrel in Council Bluffs and had some SERIOUS dinner.   I had grilled fish, rice, broccoli and baked apples <— To DIE for.    Delicious.

My in-laws then gave me this antique music cabinet.  We think it’s from the 20’s or 30’s. It’s absolutely beautiful.  Surprisingly my MIL has had it in her possession for almost a year.  It’s shocking that they’ve kept it a secret for so long.

Antiques

I’ll be 34 on the 29th!

Bring it on, baby.

I freaking LOVE the thirties!

And weekends.

I need more weekends.

Cheers!
