Weekend in Review – August 2014

Let’s see if I can be a little less wordy and little more picturey.

Yes, I made that up.

Deal.

Friday:  Rode my baby to work.  It’s always a good day when it starts on two wheels.

I had a hair appointment scheduled in Clarinda at 4:30pm, so the opportunity for 90 miles of open road on two-wheels after work?

Pure Bliss

image

After my hair appointment – ( I went black, brown, red and caramel – it’s sooooo pretty – THANKS KAYLA )  I went to visit with my mom and Aunt before making the trek back to Omaha.

I LOVE riding at dusk.  Sunsets are just gorgeous.  Another 90 miles back home was just what this chick needed.

image

I often get asked if I get nervous riding by myself.  And to that I say –

Oh, hell no.

I love it.  Of course, I love riding with my hubby and all my fellow Harley Sista’s, but I am totally cool riding by myself too.   I often will take off and go through a full tank of gas just me and my baby.  It’s called therapy.

And it’s glorious.

Saturday – a little gym time, some work from home, bill paying and some selfie playing (you know you do it too) while I waited for the hubs to finish working in the garage.   Check out the hair.  Like?

Trying to master the photo in the mirror below.  ha

Don’t judge.   Waiting for the hubs.  What’s a girl to do?  Can you see him in the background of that pic?

I also played around with my new WordSwag App

Alright, back on track.  Once he got around we took off for Bennington to meet up with Tyree and Regeana.  They had been out riding on a Poker Run all day and we went to surprise them at the last stop.

PS – It was Regeana’s Birthday on Saturday.  HAPPY BIRTHDAY, REGEANA!!

Tyree, Me, Regeana – the BDAY girl! 🙂

Cheers!

Typical.

After a few drinks and dinner we headed up to Shelby and J’s (Clint’s brother) house for a block party.  Drinks, good convo, laughs and delicious cupcakes and soon we found ourselves staring at an ugly storm that has us all packed up and OUTTA there fast.

image

Sunday– Coffee with my girl, Sunni.   We try to meet up once a month, however, summer got crazy busy so this was our first time meeting since May.  She has a million kids, so I’ll give her a free pass.  😉  LOVE you, Sunni.

After coffee I did a little shopping and then Tyree and I went to Chrome Lounge for a benefit concert and auction for the Pivonka Family.  Please visit the below pages to learn more about this tragedy and to help.

Pivonka Family Go Fund Me

Memorial Page

The benefit ran over the course of three days with local bands donating their time and music for the cause.  The turnout was just breathtaking.  People say there is no better support than small towns, however, I have to say that this weekend proved the Omaha Community is just as phenomenal.  I was moved to tears multiple times just seeing the love and support that was out there for this family.

I didn’t know the Pivonka’s personally. Only had seen them on occasion at Chrome Lounge and recognized their faces.  This weekend proved that this couple was loved deeply and will be missed tremendously by so many.

The music community in Omaha pulled through in the most amazing way.  Below is a screen shot of the Sunday bands alone.

Bless you all.

What a good way to end the weekend being surrounded by positive vibes, generous people and a room full of love.

C-Town, Girlfriends, Wedding, Garage Parties and Harley Time- The Full Weekend Recap

Monday is tough in and of itself.

A Monday after a full weekend of excitement is just cruel and unusual punishment.

 I want to go back!

Take Me Back!

Friday

Kicked off my Friday afternoon right with this darling little chick.

image

I allowed myself only one though as I had to be in Burlington Junction, Missouri for an evening wedding rehearsal for a former student of mine.

image

I have to say that it is a really cool experience to see these kids grow up, become adults, marry and start families.

After rehearsal I met up with my two besties in my hometown.  Love getting to spend time with these two chicks.  We thoroughly enjoyed each others company, as you can see.

image

Just kidding.  This was a SnapChat 101 Lesson.

We hung out until around the 11:30pm hour and then went our separate ways.   No worries, I stayed at my mom’s house.  No driving back to the city for this chick!

Saturday

Thanks to my super awesome internal alarm clock, I was up and moving around 6am.  Apparently my mind doesn’t care that my body was now going on only 17 hours total since Wednesday night.  Rude.

I laced up the ol sneakers and took off for a little under 4 miler.  It was good to see the streets of Clarinda again in the early morning hours.

image

After the run, I took over moms kitchen and made some Clif Bars.   If you haven’t tried the Clif recipe yet, you are missing out.  Find it here.

Isn’t her kitchen so cute?   Very “This Old Home”.

She works magic outdoors too:

Next up?  Wedding!

image

Such a beautiful, loving, down to earth couple they are.   Thanks for letting me be a part of it, Jess and Alan!

Saturday night I met up with my hubby for some yummy J Bruner’s action.   And then closed out the night in our friends’ garage.   Some of the best nights are the low-key easy ones.   Jade and Kayla are definitely two of the best friends we could ask for.

image

I mean, just LOOK at the way Clint is gazing at Jade.  It’s true love, folks.

And, a group selfie to close out the night.   Two of our other friends were having their 40th birthday party over in Iowa City that weekend, and since we were all stuck in Clarinda for various reasons, we wanted to send our love and support.

We are just that thoughtful.

Sunday

Thanks again to a killer internal alarm clock and the inability to fall back asleep for no more than 10 minute increments, I hit the road back to Homaha.

But first, a pit stop at my girl Sara’s.  I just love these two.

Once back in Omaha, my chrome baby and I set out on a solo 150 mile ride through the Nebraska terrain.

And it was the best kind of date to close out the weekend.

CHEERS!

The Weekend in Review

A weekend full of two wheels, friends, small towns, watering holes, ice cold drinks and a little 5K fun.

Friday night found us in Waterloo, NE at the Dog House Saloon.  I had a craving for their Watermelon cocktail as soon as work was over.   These babies are just simply the best cocktail around.

image

While at the Dog House we ran into a few people we met while out riding last season.  We quickly found our original plans of a short ride out West and maybe a little dinner turning into a late-nighter.  Which is a-ok by us!

Our party of Two turned party of Six chose to head on over to Gretna, NE  where we hit up a small watering hole called Brag N Rights.

Brag N Rights

We all took over the back patio, grabbed a bite to eat and enjoyed some cold Bud’s, good music and easy conversation.

Next up: The Waterfall Lounge in West Omaha.

Pretty sweet waterfall set up behind the bar.   If you live out in the Millard, Gretna, Elkhorn area, I’d definitely recommend swinging into this place.

We stuck around this location for a few hours before calling it a night after the midnight hour.

This is yet another reason why I love my two-wheeled lifestyle.

You never know who you will run into, where you will ride or what you will find out on the road.

image

Saturday morning had me up and going fairly early as I had a 5K to run.

The Color Me Rad recap can be found here.

The afternoon quickly slipped away and soon enough we found ourselves back on the bikes for an evening out.

Dinner at our local Hy-Vee!

Now, before you make fun of us, we should tell you that this is not your normal Hy-Vee experience.  “Our” Hy-Vee has gone under some serious construction within the last year and they recently opened up the Hy-Vee Market Cafe.   You get the full experience of a restaurant right inside the grocery store.

And what’s this about a bar?

Yep, full bar service.

Chinese and Beer.

Drinking beer at the ol’ Hy-Vee

Who knew?

Next stop: Two Fine Irishmen to meet up with a couple friends for a little conversation and live music and then closed out the evening at the 21st Saloon where we met up with two more friends.

21st

The 21st is owned by a good friend of ours, Scott.   If you like Blues music, then Thursday night is your night to hit them up.   If you are into 80’s metal, then head out to see 3D in Your Face.  They are a staple on Friday evenings!

Sunday?   A no make-up, ball cap, running shoes, grocery shopping, laundry kinda day.

And sadly, the weekend is over.

Already.

Seriously.

I need more weekends in my life and less week.

Who is with me on this?

This is also my last week before the Lincoln half-marathon on Sunday the 4th.   Most people taper their workouts leading up to big races, however, I have 8 fitness classes to teach this week, so this girl is going full force!

Just a day in the life!

I LOVE it!

Cheers

Weekend in Review

Time for the weekend in review!

Friday evening:

Dinner and a motorcycle ride with the hubs.

image

I am SO happy it is finally warm enough for two wheels.   Comfortably, that is.  🙂

My favorite summer activity is cruising back roads and exploring small towns.  You can easily find some of the best bars nestled away there.   Friday night took is through Springfield, NE where we swung into Garvey’s Pub.   Fun place and the bartender was very welcoming.  They had a killer back patio which would be perfect for some summer rides with friends!

Saturday morning started off with an early morning jog around the neighborhood.   Was able to see a gorgeous sunrise.

image

The afternoon was spent in my hometown of Clarinda where I was co-hosting a baby shower for my friend Erin.

Baby shower recap coming tomorrow!

After the baby shower, Kayla and I found ourselves at the Ice House for dinner, a few cocktails and some great girl talk before heading back to her house to meet up with the boys.  A few hours of garage time and I was back on the road for Omaha!

Sadly, today has been nothing but storms and temps barely over 30 degrees.

Clint was still in Clarinda on the motorcycle so his 90 minute ride home turned into 3 hours.   He sent me this photo while taking a little pit stop in a random barn to get away from hail and massive winds.

After he finally got home, he ended up on the couch with layers of clothing and a gigantic lap dog.

image

I spent the day picking up the house and meal prepping.  I have my daily meals packed and ready for the next four days!

I am on a new nutrition plan after seeing a Sports Nutritionist a few weeks ago.  I’ll have to update on that some other time. 🙂

Hope your weekend was fantastic and CHEERS to a happy Monday.
