The Day Has Come!

It’s the day of the 10th Annual Biker B!tch ride.

lipsandskull

10 years is sometimes hard to believe.   I have loved every last second of these past years and can’t wait to add today’s journey to our book of memories.

I had a Facebook countdown throughout the week.

Let me recap:

Four Days

Four more days until the 10th Annual B!tch Ride. Ten years of planned rides with some of the coolest chicks you could ever know. Each year we’ve grown. Each year we’ve gotten a little sassier.

I am DARN lucky to have them a part of my two-wheeled life… and so much more!

Let the countdown begin…

One Day

10 years. To me, this BB ride is more than just a ride. It’s part of me, who I am and my history. Sara and I started this 10 years ago… Just the two of us. We had built our friendship on two wheels. She was my saving grace in a time I was re-finding my path. Forming the “title” to our adventures was just something fun and silly. We had NO idea the impact it would make.

Years of friendships built. Years of memories made. We’ve gained a few, lost a few but the one thing that remains constant is the sisterhood and camaraderie. It’s hard to explain the depth of my love for this little group that I lovingly and respectfully call the Biker B!tches.

Cheers to many more years of memories, new friends, old friends and stories that we will tell for years.

One day.

Day Of

lipsandskull

And now it is time we leave our mark in all the little Southwest Iowa towns today.

To my girls:

A Biker’s Prayer
As I climb astride me ride
I ask you, God, be at my side
Keep me alert throughout the day
Guide me safely along the way
.
Potholes, roos and twisty bits
Oil, gravel and dimwits
Lord, protect me from each one
Until my ride this day is done
.
While the engine accelerates
Let us ride as friends, as mates
But when I stop in bush or town
Let me remember to put my foot down
.
Remind me that my life is fleeting
That one day we will be meeting
Let Grace and Truth with me abide
Until I take my final ride

10th Annual Ride, here we come!!!!

Float Trip 2015 | July 17-19th

Friday, July 17th Clint, myself, Jade and Kayla took off to Leasburg, MO to meet up with Craig and Bobbie for a fun float trip weekend.

The 7.5 hour drive down was a little daunting, but the company made it fly by.

And, perhaps the pit stops provided a little entertainment as well…

image

The boys thought they needed “special” floaties…  I will spare you the photos from inside the store, but perhaps you should brace yourself for the floatie pics to come later. 😉

image

.

Once we made it to Leasburg, we made a pitstop into Skippy’s Route 66, where the drinks were cold, the bartender hilarious and the staffing low.

image

Case in point, my husband is behind the bar doing dishes and serving up customers drinks.  They were so far behind that when Clint offered to help, the bartender jumped at the chance.

It’s been YEARS since I have seen Clint work behind a bar.   9 years ago when Clint was trying to win me over 😉 he worked for a little bar called Eli’s in Rockbrook Village.  Oh man… the nights I spent in that little bar.  He was such a cute bartender.   Claire and I hit this spot OFTEN for shenanigans.

Ah, memories.

A few drinks and a shot later, we headed to our little home away from home for the weekend to settle in for some dinner, lounging and good chats.

And apparently, snuggles too.

image

Saturday morning it was time to blow up the floaties and slather on the sunscreen for a FULL day of river floating and beer drinking.

image

The boys named that hideous blow up doll, Verlene.   Our entire day was based on Verlene.

Verlene, Verlene, Verlene…

Our shuttle picked us up, we hooked our rafts together

image

and set out for 7.5 hours of float time

❤ that man of mine ❤

.

image

We floated, swam, boozed, laughed, relaxed and had just a straight up awesome time.

My suit is strapless, people.   It’s all ok. 😉

Cheers to a great weekend with friends!

Light Broccoli Salad

I am a sucker for yummy Broccoli Salad and since I had a garden fresh head of broccoli that Jeanne sent home with me, I was craving this light side dish like none other.   Sadly, the recipe that usually gets passed around is always loaded with mayo.

Uh, yuck.

So, I went on a quest to find a lighter version and combined 2-3 recipes to make my own healthier, guilt free broccoli salad.

It’s basically awesome and you should make it.

image

All the yummy ingredients, pre-dressing.

Ingredients

  • 1 head broccoli, chopped into bite size pieces
  • 1/2 red onion, chopped
  • 1 small box raisins
  • 4 slices turkey bacon, crisped and crumbled
  • Small container greek yogurt (5oz)
  • 2 Tbsp. lemon juice
  • 2 Tbsp. vinegar
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 3/4 cup slivered almonds
  • 1/4 cup pine nuts
  • sea salt (to taste)
  • pepper (to taste)

Directions

  • Combine broccoli, onion, raisins, turkey bacon, almonds and pine nuts in bowl.
  • In a small bowl whisk together yogurt, lemon juice, vinegar, sugar and salt and pepper.
  • Pour over veggie mix and stir to coat.
  • Refrigerate for 30 minutes and serve.
  • Enjoy!

Weekend Reflection | Just Let it Go

This last weekend was so low-key I almost didn’t think it was Summer 2015.  I have had so many amazing weekends this summer including:

Market to Market Iowa | Fitness Competitions | Memorial Day | Rockfest | Holstein’s Memorial Run | Tree Climbing and a Stumbled Upon Poker Run | Easton Poker Run | Testicle Festival and Jeep Shenanigans | Epic 3 Day Weekend that had to be broken up into not only this first recap but this second one too! | Algona Motorcycle Rally

I almost wasn’t sure what to expect this weekend with not having a straight up crazy agenda.

I mean, I had things… but I didn’t have things.

I even took the opportunity to not use my camera phone so gosh darn much.  It’s nice to take a break from it and just rely on the memories sometimes.

Saturday

  • I hit up the gym by 7am for a quick leg session
  • On the road to Clarinda by 9am
  • 10:30 hair appointment by the Great and Wonderful Kayla
  • Quick visit with my mom and Dave
  • 1pm lunch and a few cocktails with Nicole and Kayla
  • A two hour mid-afternoon visit with my dad
    • Keith… BurrHead… The man that frustrates me almost as much as I love him

I sure do love him.

Sometimes, I elude to “things” on my blog, but don’t actually elaborate.  There are times I want to write my heart out on certain subjects, but I don’t.   It’s been an embarrassing amount of time since I have stopped to see my father.  A few years embarrassing.    Life happens.  Life has happened.  There were “things” in this relationship that I have held on to that anger me.  Made me bitter and sad.

And that is just straight up stupid.

I really try not to hold grudges or live in the past.   I really don’t.   I make an effort to live in the now, the present and cherish all past, present and future experiences, no matter good, bad or indifferent.    It was HIGH time I let this whole “thing” go.

So, I stopped by.

And, boy am I ever so glad I did.

We talked.  About nothing really.   Just sat around to shoot the shit.  Walked around outside.  Played fetch with the dog.   Had a beer or two.

And you know what?

I left dad’s house feeling light.

        Happy.

                  Worry free.

Like I was 10 years old and just spent an epic day at an amusement park and was hyped up on cotton candy and soda, kinda happy.

🙂

Life is too short to hold grudges.   Let that shit go.   Forgive, forget and move the hell on.  You’ll thank yourself.

I am still thanking myself today.

image

.

I stopped over to see my Aunt and Uncle after dad’s, since the whole side of the G family lives on the same road.   Good ol farm family living right there. 😉

I always enjoy stopping to see them.   They are home to me.   I am always happy there.  Feel safe there.  Know that I am 110% loved there.

And they always try to feed me full of beer and food, so there’s that too.

 😉

Saturday ended up being straight up fabulous.

I took the Freedom Panels out of the Jeep before leaving C-town, cranked the music, breathed in all the good for my 90 mile drive home…

… And let the rest go.

Cheers!

Algona Freedom Rally | July 4th, 2015

Oh, Algona.  You certainly did NOT disappoint with your boozetastic and eccentric ways.

image

I believe that photo could sum it up.

The eyes, the facial expressions, the deceiving innocent smile on Andy’s face…

.

image

… before he picked Clint up.

.

Algona was a one of a kind experience, to say the least.  Someone asked us how it compared to all the years of Conesville Rally’s.  Let’s just say that this rally seemed to be more “freeing” for some folks and you certainly didn’t see these signs hanging anywhere.

image

They say “What happens in Algona, stays in Algona”.

For this little blog of mine, that quote is holding it’s value because NONE of those photos I captured are going up.   BUT,  let’s just say my fellow Snapchat followers weren’t so lucky.   The good stuff stayed off the SnapChat story line (hey, teenage nieces and nephews that follow me) and right into the adults personal snap on the left side.

You are MORE than welcome.

image

I gained a few followers that day, but if you have a weird name for your handle, then I didn’t share much with you.  Sorry, but you gotta at least tell me who you are, swmpgrlrncklvr.

Ya, I made that one up… but seriously.

.

This was our first Iowa rally with the Sully’s in a LOOONNNGGG time, so it was fun to get back together with them again.  We found ourselves a sweet little shaded spot, complete with our own creek, for our weekend camping adventure.

image

Campers paradise!

.

Check this.

I rode on the back of Clint’s bike for a whole quarter mile on the campgrounds.  Watch out, y’all!  This was only the second time in my 9 years of being with Clint that I hopped on the back.  YA, this girl don’t play that way.

image

.

People ask what you do at these rally’s.  Well, you drink beer, sit around a campfire, shoot the shit, people watch, listen to music, go for day rides, walk around, etc.

algona2

.

image

The difference between a rally and a normal camping experience is the people watching is FAR more enjoyable, there are vendors with food, clothes and other crap and there is live music each night.

image.

Friday we did a lot of camp-side sitting and people watching.  Most of my epic snaps happened this day.   Seriously fascinating.

image

.

A lot of moonshine drinking happened on Friday thanks to Clint’s three batches of Red (cherry), White (straight up shine) and Blue (blue raspberry and lemon).  I made sure to catch a few taking their first drink.   It would be the last time they looked sober for the rest of the night with that 150 proof death trap.

image

Victim #1.   Remember him.

image

Victim #2.  Remember him picking up Clint in the photo above?   Yep….

image

Victim 3.

Clint.

He gets all sortsa huggy at a certain point in his drinking games.

Poor Liz.

🙂

Shortly after this photo happened Clint was hit with the weeblewobbles and was in bed at 11pm.   If he had it his way it would have been 9:30.  Somehow we managed to keep him upright for another hour.

What a rookie.
